Question about 2002 GMC Savana

1 Answer

5.7 engine I have 97,000 miles. I have experienced this problem for the past 40,000 miles. I have had a couple tune ups since this started with little or no help. The recent tune up completed everything except plugs. I just put new wires in it and it seemed to help some. I was getting a random misfire code 300. I would go onto a highway entrance ramp and in the high 60's would experience a bad vibration and a temportay service engine light would come on. then turn off after backing off the gas pedal. The problemi am still having occures at 68 mph into the 70's. A bad vibration occurs almost like the tires are unbalanced. I can speed up to the higer 70's and it sometimes goes away. then there are the times in the low 70's it comes and goes but mainly stays. I am lost. The vibration is hard to explain. I feel it in the seat, wheel and if i have a drink in the cup holder it can make the drink dance around. I have also had a new fuel pump installed recently. Could this be in the trans? or computer? i am lost and need help. The present plugs are about one and a half years old. Thanks Gene

Try this the next time you go out on the highway and it starts to shake put your shifter in over drive if you drive in over drive than put it in drive..... see if that doesn't stop or slow the shakeing in the front end. Let me know.

98 chevy truck 350 engine 93K miles when starting sometimes the engine will backfire..could be cold or hot engine..but after it runs for a couple of minutes will run fine..

A backfire usually indicates a timing issue. I recommend a minor tune up, which will include new plugs and wires, as well as checking/setting the distributor timing. An oil change is also recommended after the issue is corrected, as offset timing can cause fuel to remain in cylinder, which then bleeds past the piston rings and ends up in the crankcase with the engine oil.

Recently started idling ruff with loss of power

You will need to figure out if it is fuel or ignition related.
If you have not done a tune-up by replacing plugs and other parts within the past couple of years, start there. Including the fuel filter.

My freestar Misfires between 40 and 70 mph. They have done a tune up and sealed around the computer due to water getting into it, but now it misfires more aggresively and frequently. Some knocking type...

The water getting into the computer would scare me. The PCM needs to be scanned with a good scanner. The readings should lead to the problem [ s ], it could be the computer is corroded internally.

My 1994 mazda 626 starts and ldles but stalls when driving

ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING COULD BE STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER OR FAULTY FUEL PUMP.IDLE SPEED TOO LOW.OR IGNITION COIL HAS A LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION.FAULTY IGNITION MODULE.BAD PLUGS AND WIRES. I WOULD DO A LITTLE TUNE UP.CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND AIR FILTER.IF SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES HAS OVER 30000 MILES ON THEM I WOULD CHANGE THEM.ALSO FUEL FILTER IF OVER 30000 MILES.CHANGE IT CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS. TO TROUBLE SHOOT CAR I WILL DO A LITTLE TUNE UP FIRST TO MAKE EVERYTHING TOP NOTCH ON THE ENGINE BEFORE I GO TO NEXT LEVEL.BUYING NEW PARTS DONT NEED.GET VECHICLE SCANNED WITH A SCANNER. THAT WILL ALSO PIN POINT PROBLEM QUICKLY.BUT DO THE LITTLE TUNE UP FIRST IF EVERYTHING PAST 30000 MILES MARK.SCAN VECHICLE FOR FAULTY IDLE SPEED CODES OR FAULTY IGNITION MODULE CODE THEY WILL COST MORE MONEY TO FIX.PARTS HIGH.

What parts are needed for a tune-up?

Depends on how many miles you have as to what needs to be done. Start with cleaning your throttle body with some carb cleaner*. Replace your spark plugs with AC Delco part # 43-103. Air cleaner, fuel filter, 02 sensor upstream next to the exhaust manifold. These are the basic things you'll ned that you should do with any tune up on TB's. Depending what mileage is on it, may need to flush your coolant, flush your transmission (make sure and use Dextron 6, it's new and will make your tranny last longer), change your oil in your differential/s.

*Note: unhook the battery while doing this, there is a chance you could blow the stepper motor attached to the throttle body while under power.

When I start my car it is a little shacky for about a minute and then everything is good? could it be a starter? its been doing it for bout a month now. Only 97,000 miles on it Mona

not the starter. Is the engine light on? If yes, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5932051-check_engine_light_check. These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.
