How do i know head gasket damage

the only way is to have a head gasket test done on the car. you can pull the plugs to see if there is coolant in the cylinders or if the spark plug tip is white as this is an indication of a possible head gasket. has your car been overheating. it could be a thermostat and the engine got too hot and stopped. it could have a coolant leak somewhere as well and the coolant ran out. just some things to check.

I have a Nissan armada 2007 and it has 95000 miles. The car over heats on idle, what can be the problem. Only when the car is not in motion. After it starts moving the temperature goes back to normal.

Is there leaves, feathers & such around the condensor
& radiator, you have to blow & hose that out once a year
Do you change spark plugs every 3 years?
Do you have cylinder misifires?
Do you change your air filter every 2 or 3 years?
Did you change front oxygen sensors, on all your
vehicles at 100,000 miles
Did you change Power Steering,Transmission & Coolant
every 3 years?
Look at scan tool data?
Ask a Repair Shop to figure it out?
Any overheating you stop using it
Do you have a timing belt that is off
& should have been replaced before
95,000
I it actually overheating or just the gauge reading
is off?

I have a 2001 nissan sentra 1.8 with 158,000 miles. Problem started a month ago,no heat while idling but when revved up or driving would have heat. Changed thermostat, bled system from bolt above thermostat...

unfortunately these engines are known for this condition and for head gasket failure.with engine cold pressurize cooling system with spark plugs removed.look down into holes with flashlight after about ten minutes.....im betting youll see a puddle of coolant on piston...usually its cyl# 2 or 3.i cant think of any other possibility for system repeatedly airlocking other than a head gasket.good news they are probably one of the easier ones to replace.

Check vacuum leaks , by spraying carburator cleaner around intake manifold gasket and vacuum hoses connections . See if engine picks up the idle speed while you doing it , and if it does , locate leak and fix it. Most common , intake manifold gasket brakes.

Have a 2003 Taurus, 3.0 engine that has a misfire on #2 cylinder. Replaced all spark plugs, wires, coil, replaced the fuel injectors, crank sensor, cam sensor, still have a misfire on #2 cylinder. It has...

Sound like an air / vacuum leak to me.
Re-check for an air leak on #2 cylinder inlet manifold.
Use a propane torch (unlit, of course) to flood propane gas around inlet manifold/head flange & gasket area.
If there is any change in idle speed during this test you have a vacuum leak.

Overheating in really hot part of day and especially with Ac

The block sealer you used may have been too thick or too big. A leaking head gasket or cracked head is a rare cause for a cylinder misfire. Tryin putting a manufacture gasket back on and change the spark plugs. If that doesnt work, try checking your valves or pistons-- maybe you have worn valve guides or your cylinder wall is worn out.

1991 sentra 2dr 1.6 L rough idle in park and in drive at stop

Sounds like misfire. Change spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor , fuel and air filters. Check for oil in spark plug holes. if oil found change valve cover gasket spark plug orings. they can leak oil into spark plug holes and cause misfire.

Engine will not start!!!

was the timing belt changed, since it overheated the cam may have gotten tight and the belt might have jumped 2-3 teeth and you still would have a spark and fuel pressure.

Overheated now wont start

2 possible reasons for not restarting- antifreeze in cylinders or spark plugs distorted for overheating, may need to change to restart.
