i HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 88 TURBO MX6 AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE LIGHT OFF IS TO CHANGE THE RPMS. (LIKE DOWN SHIFT OR SLAM DOWN THE GAS)

I would check and make sure your throttle position sensor is working correctly also check your egr valve.

I have the same problem and checked the trouble codes it says it is the EGR valve positioning sensor. They are bad about carbon build up.Sometimes you can take the egr off and clean it out good and erase the codes and be ok.

I made a mistake about the egr code that was another # the running rough and oxygen sensor was actually the intake gasket was leaking. It was such a small leak you could barely hear a difference when you spray around the edge of the intake.I changed my gasket about a year ago w/no problems. The gasket was only a few bucks and changed all sorts of parts before i figured this out.

the easy way to know what problem causes the light come on, you can take a cheap OBD2 code reader to have a check.

When I start my car or it idles I smell gas. What could cause this?

If the engine is running rich, you should have a check engine light on.
If you do, have the computer scanned for trouble codes.
It could be a fuel leak in the line or around the injectors too.

Just bought a 95 z 28 its all ready had k&n cold air intake, phantom air to fuel ratio, and vacuum gauges and a port to plug a lap top into so i was told, the air to fuel ratio gauge is showin its...

Cheap air/fuel gauges simply tap off the stock oxygen sensor. That sensor can only tell you lean or rich and the car should idle roughly at 14.7:1 and go rich under acceleration. Cruise down the highway at steady 50 mph and see what the gauge does. Should be calmer.
At idle the needle can bounce around quite a bit. Means nothing. It should however go sometimes rich and sometimes lean. That's how the computer adjusts, if it stays lean too long, the computer tweaks the injectors richer. If it stays rich too long, the computer tweaks it leaner. If the computer cannot adjust the ratio, it will set the check engine light and in that case it should be a flashing check engine (meaning stop the car and tow it to a shop - flash means the catalytic converter can burn out).
If you want to know the actual air-fuel ration you need to buy a wide/band oxygen sensor and related gauge. They are much more expensive and will typically run a few hundred dollars. If the car is stock except for K&N, don't bother with the air/fuel gauge.
As for computer hookup. Go read up about "LT1Edit". Don't buy the software (too expensive for a stock car) but you'll understand what software is out there to monitor your engine (and what hardware you need to buy in order for your laptop to talk to your car).

Burning smell, check engine light-misfire, rough idle 96 cavalier

Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.

Rough idle no check engine lights sometimes runs up to 2000rpms other times dies out or idles low smell like its runing rich changed the tps with no change whats the problem?

It sounds like your engine is gummed up. I recommend that you get two bottles of a fuel additive called seafoam and dump them into the gas tank. In no time, your engine will be purring again.

My 1998 Olds 88 has been stalling and running rough.

Check and clean the IAC valve. Idle Control Valve. Use brake cleaner or carburater cleaner . Remove the duct work from the air filter assembly. It is located just inside . Run the engine at 1200 rpms and spray the valve. The valve can also be removed and cleaned.
