Question about 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

98 jetta with no a/c

I have a 98 jetta with a 2.0l the a/c dosen't come on, evacted and recharged and nothing changed, all fuses are good, a wirind diagram would be nice or any help

    I had the same problem. Check your fan control module (under the coolant reservoir). Also, are your rad fans working? They are both controlled by this module. Seeing the rad fans working (or not) will help to know if this is the problem.

The lower hose of the engine block just behind the alternator is where you will find the thermostat.

I am recharging the AC in my 98 Jetta their are 2 threaded valves, one connected to a large steel hose the other connected to a smaller one, Which one do I use to recharge?


mcdevito75 here, Follow each steel line , the one that goes into the firewall is the 1 you need find the port on that tube and recharge your A/C, plus your rechrage kit should only fit this port. Chargeing port may be covered with a brass like cap un screw and there"s the port.

1999 Jetta change battery, radio dead


Actually pull out the radio fuse for 15 seconds and then re-install. Mine usta just quit working once in a great while, and this was the fix. Radio fuse #42 if this is a "New Jetta A4 body" or fuse # 22 on an older "A3 body style"

Fuses are located either in the engine compartment or passenger compartment fuse and relay panels.

Air conditioning AND security system questions


I don't know about the alarm issue - having one of those myself. But for the air conditioning - it sounds to me like it needs to be recharged. They can do that at most service station/oil change places.

On my 98 Jetta it's located left of the steering wheel on the bottom-most part of the panel.

Sounds like a line popped. Usually the line above the fans coming from the condenser pops off by the crush fitting. If there's no freon in the system the compressor will not run.

Car is overheating


when coolant is refilled it has to be evactated, basiscally a vacuum of 1.8 to 2.0 which only the dealer has. the coolant system holds air and no matter how you fill it. it has to be vaccumed out
