Have 1997 Aurora. Yesterday, my wife was driving the car when smoke started coming thru AC vents. I'm sure there's a short in wiring somewhere. AC still works, but headlights/taillights are not working. Looking for troubleshooting help.

HI..
First the A/C. Vents and ducts are Completly APART of the
Electrical wires.. can be wires BUT outside of the A/C housing assemble.
For the Smoke from the a/c vents. Check the antifreeze level.
and see under the car for any advice of Coolant.
when the HEATER CORE. come damaged. loss coolant. and smel bad.

For the lights;
First check all the fuses. The FUSE fo the Park lights is
PARKLP fuse 25amp. Located undel left REAR passanger seat. Fuse block..
OK.. The HEAD light use a CIRCUIT BREAKER "HDLP" 20amp.
LOcated on the engine compartment fuse box.
Check the head light switch.
and the turn signal switch.
BUT your lights use a little Module called. LAMP CONTROL MODULE.. Located a left side of the Instrument panel.
You can try to locate and inspect.

OK.. i hope this help to try to diagnostic your vehicle.

- There are two ways to check fuses the first is the good old fashion way of removing each fuse and visually inspecting each fuse. It's time consuming but effective. And the easy way, but you need a "test light" before you can begin. Turn the key to the "on" position (do not start), ground your test light lead to a good ground source, like a metal brace under the dash, seat mount bolt or under hood brace. Then lightly touch the service port at the top of the fuse on both sides. If the test light illuminates on both sides of the fuse, the fuse is ok and working properly. If the fuse lights the test light on one side it is blown and needs to be replaced.
