Question about 1992 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Speedo my speedo suddenly went round the clock - to over 160kms, and got stuck there, it won't go back to zero, my husband thinks it might not be earthed. It has a speed sensor. Any easy suggestions.

Quite possibly the speed sensor has taken a dump. They're not a common failure but they're an electromechanical part and certainly can fail. They're usually on top of the transmission, with a two wire plug on them, right near the top of the transmission housing.

Don't think so. Sounds like the battery shorted out, which may have also shorted out your dash/speedo. At this point you can either look into a replacement speedo, or drill a small hole where you may be able to flip your needle back around to proper location, but this will only work if the needle is binding. If will not fix a burned out circuit board

Speedometer is stuck under zero

Pull the rubber trip reset pin out slowly so all you see is the hole & the shaft. Take a long tin-tie (about 5 inch) & fish it inside the speedo to the needle & carefully bring it back counterclockwise when its back at least to "2-3 O'clock" hold it & turn your switch to coil...the needle will go back to zero. keep the tin-tie in your coin box if ever it happens again!
