Question about 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Wont start When I would drive downhill with less then half a tank of gas, my blazer would stall out. I was on my way home from work and it just shut off and will not start. I changed fuel pump last year and it is pumping fine, I just changed the filter and it still wont start

Why did it shut off while I was driving?

Change the tank gas cap. When it is clogged, vacuumbuilds in the tank; this prevents the gas flow to the engine.

It cuts off when i am under half a tank and apply the brakes

Your fuel gage could be say 1/2 tank and it is really less. When you apply the brakes the fuel is all going to the front of the tank and it starts sucking air. This will cause it to stall especially if brakes are drawing power at the same time.

97 sl1 started stalling when 1/4 tank of gas now stalls at 3/4 tank replaced fuel pump and filter/regulator twice runs great when full

It seems that cap of the tank is not letting in air to replace the volume consumed by the engine. Earlier, when it used to stall when1/4 full, there must been less blockage of air but now the air inlet must be really clogged-up,so much so that after being emptied 1/4 of fuel, the negative pressure built up inside the tank is enough to negate the fuel pumps capacity & without gas it will stall the engine which is being deprived of fuel.
One way to make sure that this IS the problem, fill the tank half, do not put the cap try a drive at least for 5 miles & if the engine does not stall, then one can be sure that he cap of the gas tank has to be replaced............sodeep

1997 CHEVY BLAZER SHUTS OFF WHEN DRIVING

Sounds like water/debris in the gas tank. Try adding dry gas to the tank. Changing the fuel filter also a good idea.

2000 chevy cavalier shut off while driving on the freeway , got it to start again drove home now engine turns over but wont start .

oh ok this is simple u need to put a new fuel filter on there it has a bad fuel filter on there try that out if not it is the fuel pump but try the fuel filter after that and the fuel pump if it still has a problem it is the gauge and try to put mid grade cause it causes less break downs for your car cause it doesnt mess up ur fuel filter

2000 gmc jimmy stalls when gas tank is on half or less

I had a problem just like that and what it was is that there is a fuel pick up on the fuel pump inside the gas tank. This came off the pump at some point and when it did the engine would stall out when ever I turned left or when I was on the breaks coming to a stop light, and this only happened if I had less than about 6 gallons of gas. I removed the tank and pulled out the pump and found the problem, I replaced it and have not had a problem since. Just to let you know the car was a 1992 Acura Vigor, but it sound like the same problem. I hope this helps.

Intermettent shut-offs

Most of the time when the engine shuts off, but only when you have a partial tank of fuel, the system is sucking air between the fuel pick-up and the pump (internal) or somewhere along the fuel pick-up tube (external). Either way you're going to have to drop the tank to fix it. Been there, done that!
