I am having the exact same problem. Started yesterday and I had the battery replaced this morning. The lights are still on. Perhaps it is the alternator? Have you found anything out about yours?

It started with the brake light coming on intermittently; usually in frigid temperatures. I went to the dealership to have it checked and they couldn't fix it (for less than $1500 brake job, all wheels; yeah, right!). Next thing the engine sounds funny on take-off and then quits. The only levels looking low were radiator (yet, no leaks determined - including no dampness under passenger-side mat or milkiness to engine oil). I topped the radiator fluid and ran it to ensure no air bubbles in cooling system; next thing I know the battery light is now ON, and the power steering isn't working. Any ideas?

I have a 2000 Outback, brake and battery dash lights on. Strange engine noise at acceleration and strange electrical burning smell. Power steering seems in need of some power as well

I had this same problem, I replaced both idler pulleys on my 2002 H6 sedan, this solved the problem, also the power steering pump onn these cars starts to go out after 80,000 or so. I would look at the belt and the two idler pulleys, if either of them have excessive play(ie-belt looks like it wiggles or moves back and forth at all, while traveling over the idler pulleys-2 on H6, one is a belt tensioner) replace immediatley.

Sounds like the belt let go and maybe got jammed on the way out. The belt power the alternator, power steering pump and water pump etc. Check for a seized pulley as well. Sometimes the little bearings go.

the problem is most likely in the alternator or possably the voltage regulator of the alternator, it is an easy test to run and is done for free at most automotive stores, when the alternator is cold there may be commontator and brush contact issues. the test when it is cold is you can put a voltage testor on the battery and have the scar started cold. the voltage should not drop below 10v f it does have the battery load tested. as soon as the car starts then see if the voltage is around 14.3 or so, if it is below 14 then the alternator or regulator are bad. if it is jumping all over like ya know 12, 15, 7, 14 then the regulator is bad. have them double checked and replaced.

The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem
