Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

TURN SIGNAL I have replaced the front drivers signal bulb and the problem of the signal not working still exists. When i go to the local parts distributor they can't reference a flasher part number. Does a flasher exist in a 1997 Grand Caravan?

If the passenger side is blinking when you put the signal on, the flasher isn't the problem, as both sides would not operate if the flasher is defective. Did u check the rear bulb? Check the contacts of both the front and rear drivers side, along w/ the bulbs. Clean the contacts w/ fine sandpaper, and coat w/ dielectric grease (available at any parts store), this is specially formulated for elec. systems and will prevent corrosion, which is most likely your problem. Let me know how u do. countrycurt0

The right front turn signal does not work. The bulb appears to be good. The turning indicator blinks on and off. Even checked all fuses. What should I try next on a 1990 cadillac sedan de ville?

Rear signal works, just not the front one? This thing should have clear "turning lights" on both front fenders that come on when the headlights are on and the corresponding turn signal is activated. Do they come on? If so, your most common issue is probably a bad bulb socket or wiring. Easily obtained and replaced at a local auto parts store. If the turning light doesn't come on (and the bulb is good) then probably the multi-function switch in the steering column is the problem. Fairly easily obtained but more difficult to replace.

Go to your local auto parts store.Ask at the counter, give them your make and model and year.

High & Low Beam Headlamp Light Bulb Size: 9007
Parking Light Bulb Size: 194NA
Front Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 7507 Or 2827
Rear Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 7507
Tail Light Bulb Size: 7443
Stop Light Bulb Size: 7443
High Mount Stop Light Bulb Size: 7506

Front Side Marker Light Bulb Size: 194NA

The bulb is in a socket which will twist out, then there may be a clip that holds the bulb in.

Rear driver turn signal does not work, now neither does the driver front turn signal. no passenger brake llight. bulbs replaced, sockets replaced, lens assembly replaced. everything works when pluged...

The problem has to be in the multi function stalk if all of those parts were replaced correctly. This is the actual turn signal switch on the steering column.

Turn signal problems

Turn signals have a relay (its a small switch that charges and discharges current) which controls your turn signals blinking speed and interval. This is most likely your problem. You should be able to get a new one at your local parts store. Follow these instructions, in this order, and let me know how it works.

Step 1:Turn on the hazard lights and walk around the Taurus checking that all four turn signal lights are working. If any of them are not working, replace the bulbs. A non-working bulb in any of the turn signals will often make the turn signals appear that a flasher is going bad.

Step 2:
Locate the fuse box and check the fuses for the turn signals. There may be more than one. Replace any fuses that are blown and then recheck the turn signals again. If they still aren't working properly, then move on to replace the flasher. Step 3: Look for a round, silver-colored object near the fuse box. Put your finger on the object and turn on the turn signal. You should be able to feel a mechanical clicking as the turn signal blinks. This is the flasher. Step 4: Pull the silver flasher out of the socket and replace it with the new one. Each of the flashers should have two pins sticking out of the bottom side. Start the Taurus and recheck the turn signals to ensure that they work. Joel

2001 S60 Right Turn Signal Blinks Rapidly compared to Left Signal

Gregg -

I had the same problem. It was a defective lamp socket on the driver's left side, Volvo Part Number 8662985. Costs me $11.24 to replace the lamp socket, which included the bulb. If you've already replaced the bulbs yourself, you will find replacing the socket pretty easy, just use a thin flathead screwdriver to delicately pry off the metal retainer clip which holds the lamp socket in place, as you'll need to reinstall the existing metal retainer clip once you've replaced the lamp socket. Two minute job.
