Question about 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

Continuous code for cat. seems to plug up

I have a 2001 chevy monte carlo ss. It has 97,700 miles, in the last 2 years it has about every 4 months cut out and fall on its face and has been due to plugged converters. They replaced 4 , the check eng. light never came on till 6 months ago and I replaced the convertor with an after market in hopes it would correct the problem.
It seems to be running rich and sucking mad amounts of air and is now throwing check eng. a lot but low threshold code for convertor.
The car has been to 4 dealers and they did the 02 s and convertors and even took out the auto start saying that was causing it.
I like the car and could use any help or ideas you may have.
thanks

Cylinder one on monte carlo 2003

If the code is 301 it means there is no power from that cylinder. It could be a problem with the ignition, fuel injector, or something mechanical.

My 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo ss has a miss. Rpm gauge jumps up an down while driving. Has new air filter, plugs an wires. Other suggestions?

Stop by any good parts store and have them do an OBII scan (fault scan) Most will do it FREE. They'll pull codes and identify what is causing your "miss"

How do i reset the check engine light on my 2001 chevy monte carlo ss

you need a scanner to clear the codes. make sure you have them written down first. Many parts stores offer free scans (autozone, Advance, etc.)

2001 chevy monte carlo 3.8 liter v-6: starts fine

is your check engine light on ? if not check the fuel filter it may be plugged. it is also possible that your fuel pressure is low, is it start it then it bogs and dies, for you may have a defective idle air mixture solenoid, this will not call up a code there for no check engine light, hope this helps , let me know good luck

EGR Valve replacement and Check engine light

Error code will have to be cleared. The way that cars know when to turn on the check engine light is that there is a recurring error for "x" miles or time, as long as that error exists in it's memory most cars will continue displaying the check engine light.

Hi i got a buddy who has 2001 monte ss and in the past 4 months i replaced #1 & #2 rockers and push rods and its knockin again i think its the cam any ideasw thanks

Have you tried checking the clearance of the lifters? Try doing a valve adjustment before replacing anything else.

It is possible that the valves are not seated right, or it is also possible that it is a "Rod Knock", which is the sign of a warn engine. Any engine that is over 150,xxx miles needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

Also, make sure the proper amount of oil is in the car. It is a very common problem to run low on oil, or to let the car go past that 3,000 mile change because you think it won't hurt anything, and it can seriously mess up the car.

Especially when you are dealing with newer SS models.

2001 Monte Carlo - brakes squeal "whistle"

Actually - I had the same problem and replaced my brakes 4 times in a year. YES 4 TIMES because of the whistling. I switched from metallic to ceramic pads and works like a charm! Ceramic will not allow the noise, plus I have found to have much better control over braking and short distances.
