Question about 1996 Pontiac Sunfire
When you get the engine hot and come to a stop and park it turn engine off it wouldnt do nothing but a clicking noise so i left it over night and today i went to start it it crank over perfect i took it to advance they seem to think its the alternator which is 153.00 .are they anything else it could be this is the first time its done this
Obviously could be the battery as well. Did you ever have a battery light on the dash? I would give the battery a healthy charge and go from there. Throwing parts at a vehicle never solved anything. Also start the vehicle up with the red wire that goes to he altenator unhooked It is a 13mm nut. Be sure to electrical tape that wire as it will short out! With a volt meter measure the output at idle. Rev the engine to around 2500 RPMS the output should be around 14.8 DC. Go from here and we will confirm.
