No they are different systems going to the same place, the tail lights use one fillament in the bulb and the brake and turn signal use the other, a couple things to check, brake light fuse, brake switch (located on the brake peddle) check for power, I have also run into the 4 way flasher that were the problem, more than likely the brake switch

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Go to your fuse box under the hood and check the fuse that is labeled tail lamp. If you don't have an extra fuse, use one of the other fuses to check anyway. They are all the same. If the fuse is good, you will need to change your brake switch. It is located above your brake pedal. It is a round chrome looking cylinder. The top of the brake pedal actually hits the brake switch. There is a tiny button on the end that controls the brake lights. When it is pushed in, your lights come on. Try messing with the tiny button and check to see if it needs adjusted. If it don't, go ahead and replace it. I bought one at Advanced Auto Parts for 33 dollars. That is a little high for a brake switch but parts for Sebrings are always higher. This should fix your issue. Thanks for using FixYa and have a great day.

SOURCE: 1998 chrysler town &country brake lights dont work but the 3rd one does

do your dash lights go out too? .. corroded wires (you can do an insulation breakdown test), or its grounding out in the console, but that would most likely blow the fuse. check to make sure u r looking at the right fuse too, wires can be connected to other random components, for example you may find your horn doesnt work either. and being as you have 3 brake lights, it may be possible they are on 2 diff fuses

hope this helps some!

Hello, I have a problem with my 2017 accord. The tailights have gone off. Which fuse?

Power flows from the 12 volt battery through Fuse 19 (20A) and to the Tail Light Relay. This fuse and relay are housed in the under-hood fuse/relay box located at the left rear of the engine compartment. When the Tail Light Relay is commanded ON by the MICU, power flows out from the relay to Fuse 27 (10A) housed in the under-dash fuse/relay box located at the lower left end of the dashboard. From here, power flows to the side marker lights, license plate lights and tail lights. If a fuse is blown, check for water in the tail light assemblies. If a fuse isn't blown, it could be the the Tail Light Relay has failed or is not being commanded ON by the MICU. The MICU wouldn't send a command to turn ON without first seeing the request from the headlight/combination switch, so there could potentially be an issue there as well. Can you tell me what wires should have power in the brake light switch behind the pedal? 94 geo tracker

Brake light bulbs are illuminated within the rear combination light assemblies whenever the brake pedal is pressed. This happens because of the brake light switch (also known as the stop lamp switch) located above the brake pedal. Pressing the the brake pedal closes the internal contacts of the brake light switch which transfers power from the battery to the combination light assembly. For example, in a '94 Geo Tracker the STOP/HORN fuse (15A) supplies power to the brake switch via a green wire and then to the combination light assemblies via a green/white white wire whenever the brake switch contacts close. These are the only two wires for the brake switch. The combination light assemblies on the other hand have four wires; brake light input (green/white wire), tail light input (red/blue wire), turn signal input (green wire) and ground (black wire). If all of the brake lights are inoperative, chances are the brake switch has failed or the power-supply fuse has blown. This is because it is highly unlikely for all brake light bulbs to fail simultaneously (although not impossible). 2011 Kia Sorento passenger side brake lights not working

Light bulbs require power and ground in order to work. The ground circuit for the left rear combination lamp is shared between the turn lamp, stop lamp and tail lamp. Because the tail light still works in that specific combination lamp, we know that the shared/common ground for that assembly is OK. The power circuit for both stop lamps (left and right) have the same origin; voltage flows from the STOP LP FUSE (15A) through the DBC RELAY (when the stop lamp switch is pressed) and then to each stop lamp via their respective circuit branches. Because the right stop lamp works, we know that the shared/common fuse, relay and switch are all OK. I'd suspect an open in the left stop lamp power supply branch and would recommending checking for voltage on the green & black wire at the left rear combination lamp assembly to confirm. Regarding the left lamp on the hatch, the wiring diagram indicates these are not stop lamps rather tail lamps only. I'd recommend installing a tail lamp bulb instead of a brake light bulb into that assembly as a first step. I have a 2001 Kia Sportage and replaced the brake light switch. I have no brake lights when you mash the brake pedal but the tail lights work otherwise when put in park. What am I overlooking?

If the third brake light is working and just the two mains are not then it may be the turn signal switch that is the culprit here, the brake light circuits go through the switch.

None of my tail lights work. i changed the bulbs, tail light control board and fuses. I'm an electrician so i need a wire diagram of a 1996 chevy suburban

Your solution is a new combination switch,It also sounds like the hazard are activated and is non operation interfering with the brake light, but either way the solution is a combination swith

Brake lights work tail lights do not

This could be your reason. Some vehicle come equiped with a double filiment bulb. It could be that this part of your tail light bulb is blown. Try removing one of the bulbs to see if the filiment is broken. If you can not see this, replace the bulb.

The other senario is that the fuse in your fuse panel controling your tail lights (running light) is blown. This is usually on a seperate fuse than your brake lights. Your owner's manual should state which fuse is what on your panel and replace is with the exact same ratted fuse that it calls for.

Good luck! Hope I helped.

Interior dash and running lights dont work but my signal and brake lights work else works

Look at fuse #18, a 15 amp fuse, in the fuse block. This fuse powers both the tail lights and instrument cluster lights. Usually both of these light systems are powered by the same fuse so when your cluster isn't lit up you'll know right away that your tail lights aren't working as it's not safe to drive without tail lights. Your brake, turn, and head lamps are powered by different circuits. Hope this helps and good luck!
