We have 2001 town and country. Last night, speedometer needle went below zero and stayed there while driving and when van was turned off. Today, I went to start vehicle and it would not start. Sounded like an "old machine gun" when I attempted to start. Lights, radio and other electronics were working. Battery is less than a year old.

Believe it or not..Coca cola..will take acid off the battery post...Just put a cloth or paper towel between post and clean one side at a time..use a old toothbrush to help..Then tighten the battery post...

Battery voltage is way low when you crank makes it sound like a machine gun. This can also be caused by a loose or corroded battery cable. Test the battery for a bad cell and look at the alternator to see if it is working correctly.

SOURCE: 97 town and country LXI mini van speedometer and tach not working

the cluster needs to be calibrated to the pcm before the speedo and tach will work. You will have to take it to the dealer to have it done. The last time I had to do it, it cost me 70 dollars.

SOURCE: battery light came on then lights went out and van died minivan

your alternator most likely went bad and you were just driving on battery power with out the alternator recharging back the battery when your voltage drops to around 7.5 volts then the van will die please dont try to drive home with out fixing alternator.

SOURCE: Van won't start. Just makes a clikcing noise. Horn sounds weak.

THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE STARTER OR JUST REPLACE THE SOLENOID ON TOP OF THE STARTER IF YOU CAN BUY IT SEPERATE.

Turn signals on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country cause dash lights to come on and speedometer & odometer quit working

I would say its probably a short or a ground problem at the turn switch or a wire in that area. you need a test light and probably a multi meater and some nohow a ground or wireing problem can even drive a master teck crasy.

Speedometer needle is behind pin, in a 2001 chrysler town and country. instead of buying part what else can i try?

This is an ez repair. Remove the trim around the dash of the speedometer. Unscrew and remove the plastic cover over the speedometer itself. Move the needle to it's correct position. Should take less than half an hour.

a scanner that gets into the instrument cluster computer can reset the needles. or take the dash apart and manually turn dash cluster upsidedown, then the needles will move so rotate untill the needles are reset.

Speedometer

look closly at the needle, there is a pin that the spedo needle sits on when the vechile is not moving. it normally sits on the top of it.
look closely and if it is actually under that pin then, this might sound like a joke, you have to reach execsive speeds to get the needle back to normal position. there are 2 ways to do this, long stretch highway or block up the vechicle and floor it. let me know how it turns out i came across this 5 times in the past year
