There is a c-clip on the end of the axle that locks into a grove in the axle gear, they can fit pretty tight, some times you have to wrap a cable arond the in-board CV joint and aitches the cable to a slide hammer and give it a good pop, they do make a puller for the this purpose but it does just what i have told you to do. also some times you have to remove the other side axle and use a long screwdriver to go threw the trans-axle and push the axle out. most of the time you can just use a long chisel and put the tip on the lip of the CV joint and hit it with a hammer.
