I have to replace starter on 91 bravada, is there some kind of trick to getting it out, cause i loosen the 2 bolts and it wont clear the tranny housing, looks like a bracket on the back part of starter but its not attached to the starter, does that have to be removed? and what is that bracket for, i mean can i use a hammer to bend it enough to move it out of the way to remove the starter

you can tap on the drum with a hammer they should come right off but don't beat on them as they will break if you hit to hard and if the brake shoes are to tight they need to be adjusted looser before you try to remove the drums

The mount is probably bad anyhow. so get it out however you need to, you can always cut the nut or bolt off and the new mount will have a new stud. so you will only need a nut.

How to remove/installed starter for 03/ bmw325xi

The starter is bolted to the bell housing which is at the back of the engine. First, disconnect the earth strap of the battery. There are two bolts holding the starter in place at the bell housing area of the gearbox(Top of the gearbox).First off your going to need a 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm and 19mm sockets with 17mm wrench to remove all the bolts that hold the things in your way together. You will also need a flashlight, flat head screw driver, ratchet, a couple of extensions, a crowbar, a bottle jack (to move the tranny up and down). The procedure is as follows:-- 1) First step is to jack the car up. 2) Second step is to remove the Battery! Very Important! When you remove the battery make sure to clean up the terminals and the battery posts! This requires a 13mm ratchet for removal. 3) Next step is to accesses the tranny cross member and remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the tranny in place. Your going to have to have to swing the tranny up and down with the bottle jack in order to reach certain bolts. Make sure you disconnect the exhaust bolts too!they are 13mm as well. 4) Now to gain access to the starter you to have to remove a few things.Well first your going to have to remove The air box. Your going to need a 10mm socket to do this. After removing the air box your going to have to remove the MAF, the intake plenum and all the vac lines attached. You will only need a flat head screwdriver to unfasten all of the hose clamps. Leave the MAF attached to the top side of the air box for convenience. 5) Next step is to remove the throttle body. You will need a 10mm socket with wobble bar extensions to remove the four throttle body bolts and the flat head screwdriver to remove the hose clamps. There is 2 vacuum lines one small one that goes to the Carbon canister and one big one that goes to the valve cover. There is also 2 coolant lines that hook into the throttle body to help heat the intake air for better fuel atomization.Don't forget to remove the throttle cable and the clip for the TPS. Now you can remove the TB. 6) Next step is to remove the Heater core coolant lines. 7) Now remove a bracket that holds two wire clips to the motor directly behind the starter motor. You have to remove the right clip before you can access the 19mm bolt. 8) The starter is now seen clearly. Now to remove the starter out .First remove the three wires from behind the starter solenoid, There is a thick Black one, a thick Red one and a thin Black one with a yellow stripe. The thin one just slides out off the clip, the other two need to be removed with a 10mm socket DON'T LOSE THE BOLT! 9) Now have the tranny jacked up all the way with the bottle jack. Now you can gain access to the TOP starter bolt on the tranny side. Slide the open end side of a 17mm wrench onto the starter bolt then secure it. 10) Now drop the tranny out slowly and let it hang, you now have enough room to slide a 17mm wrench on the BOTTOM starter bolt.loosen the starter holding bolt and slide the starter out. 11) Before removing old starter check its position and in the same way insert new starter and fit it in reverse of disassembly. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

My 91 mercury cougar makes a clicking noise when I turn the key to the start position and the car does not start. It is not the battery because I just replaced it. I think it is the starter but am unsure....

It is not the battery if it clicks whenever you turn the key. It is either the starter or the starter relay, or possibly a bad ground. I would remove the starter, which is on the passenger side bolted to the tranny. You can do it yourself, its not too hard, only difficult thing is getting under the car to do it. It bolts on with 2 bolts to the tranny, which if i remember right are 1/2. Then disconnect the wires connected to the starter, and take it to any parts store, they can tell you which is at fault.

How to remove and replace starter 1996 bravada

Oldsmobile Bravada with V6. To get starter out first disconnect Battery. Then at passenger side wheel well unbolt wires, 9/16 and 5/16 sockets. Then under vehicle unbolt the 2 stabilizer bars running from the flywheel cover, 15mm at cover, 9/16 at engine block. I only had to remove the 9/16 on passenger side, bending down the driver side. Then remove bolts from the flywheel cover, 15mm and one Torx T40. In order to get the Torx bolt removed I had to drop the front driveshat, inverse Torx E12. I did not reinstall that bolt. Reinstall driveshaft. Now the flywheel cover will slide down just enough. It stayed in place resting on drive shaft and transmission lines. NOW unbolt starter, 9/16 socket. Please wear safety glasses, I only got hit once from the starter bolts but that was enough. Wiggle the starter back end up, clear flywheel cover then a lot more wiggling from there.

98 BRAVADA

First disconnect the battery!!!!!!!!! Sometimes it is hard changing the starter. you change it from under the vehicle. get the truck on a lift or jacked up on ramps. loosen the two bolts that hold the starter in place but don't remove them yet. you will have to remove the two wires going to the starter, the big one is from the battery and a little one that goes to the solenoid, you can get to then from going through the wheel well, be very careful taking them off. after disconnecting them take them together and move them out of the way. remove the two bolts {the ones that hold the starter in place. The starter will be loose so make sure it does not just fall out. you will have to move the starter around so it will clear the exhaust manifold move it around until you are able to get it out. remember how it came out so you can install another one. reconnect the wires and secure the bolts, then hook the battery back up. There are guys too that drop the starter first and rotate it so they can remove the wires to the starter if you have larger hands and can not get to the wire harness from the wheel well. Good luck and hope this helps

STARTER - 1993 cutlass ciera

According to Chilton's, and assuming you have the 3300 V-6, it won't be fun. The first instruction is to drain the air conditioning system, and remove the front manifold. The starter is between the engine and the radiator. The deal breaker for me is the A/C draining/refill. If anyone knows of a way to avoid the A/C drain, let me know. Otherwise, I may just preemptively replace mine before my buddy runs low on R-12.
