Headlights stay on after ignition off. - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

I have left the headlight switch turned on since the car was new. About a month ago, I woke to find the parking lights on, and the smell of burning insulation in the car. I turned the headlights off and use them manually now. My dealer says the lights never go off automatically. Help

I too have always left the light switch on. Recently, I have walked away and found the headlights and/or parking lights remain on. I have gone to using them "manual"... my wife keeps forgetting and is killing batteries.

I can't find any reference to having automatic headlights - but I DID have them. P.S. My doors also lock themselves "sometimes" when I walk away from the car even for a few minutes - don't set your keys down!

I have an 06 Sonata with the same issue plus new ones are popping up now. I have:
    no washer pump
    cruise control
headlamps need to be switched off/on 15 times before staying off
ABS/ESC lights come on and off randomly

The problem was a relay. It was fixed once my dealer admitted that the option did actually exist on my vehicle. The big problem was getting them to admit the existence of the option.

That's not a solution - that's just confirmation to my problem. I know they are supposed to go out when the key is out - and it used to do that. Now it does "sometimes". Hyundai denies that the auto headlight feature even exists on my 02 Sonata.

Possible bad ignition switch. Security is partly ignition as well as headlights r part of security all tied to ignition.

Should be looked at by certified mechanic. Not hard, but not easy fix either.

How to find an electrical disturbance in 1998 ford expedition

Normally this condition is the result of a poor body ground connection. Testing for this can be deceiving. At the static(nothing on) condition, testing can show a good ground. However when a circuit is excited, it has a determined resistance and a set current flow. If the ground connection to this or a branch circuit is loose, corroded, or broken wire. This will allow just enough connection to show as being good, but not good enough to complete the circuit with the required amount of connection when energized.

The headlight stay on all the time, either daytime running lights or all lights. The car has a sensor bulb in the dash. If you pull the headlight switch on and then push off, they still stay on. Trying...

This sounds like how the headlights on this vehicle are designed to operate. They can be manually turned on if in DRL mode. Setting the park brake before turning the ignition on should keep them from lighting, otherwise they are always on. The light sensor switches between lowbeam and daytime running light modes.

Hello, firstly I was wondering if the lights shut off when you pull the switch off the harness?
If YES, then THAT switch or wiring could be bad
if NO, then it's most likely the body control module

Sounds like there is a short in the bulb of your headlight. Try replacing it to see if that helps.
