Question about 1993 Honda Prelude

1 Answer

98 Prelude will not not go into gear???

A couple of mos. in the middle of driving my car would not go into gear. I pulled over and had to get it towed. 2 places looked at it and told me nothing was wrong with it. It still does it every couple of days. If I turn the car off then put it in gear then it works. I just have to do that everytime I stop. Usually when I get going in the car it drives fine. Its just getting the stick to go into gear in the beginning. Im taking it to an expensive place to get it looked at and just want to have some ideas before I go in

Hi i have a 98 honda prelude and i noticed a couple of weeks ago when pulling up a slight surge after stopping. Today it revs between gears a little before catching into gear?

Sounds Like you may have a trans issue. If it's revving while shifting (called 'flaring") and/or downshifting harshly coming to stops. It's likely internal failure of clutchpacks/bearings which causes contaminants of metal and clutch material to be dispersed throughout trans. including the very precision valve bodies. Valves begin to stick, etc. And you now have problems. Have it diagnosed at Honda dealer, or reputable trans shop.

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

98 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Auto-Tiptronic Transmission Problems

I own a 1999 Honda Prelude base model with a automatic sequential tiptronic trans. If your willing to try a couple of things you might get lucky a save your trans. If my suggestions doesn't help your trans
performance then it time to pull out the pocket book. Drain the trans
fluid. Flush the cooler. Remove the 2 solenoid right by the starter motor. Most likely the 2 metal screens are plugged up. Clean them up with parts cleaner. Then wire the solenoids to a battery so when you spray into them with the parts cleaner you can energize the solenoids while spraying cleaner into the 2 ports. The purpose of this is to free up anything that could be making the solenoids stick. Reassemble the
solenoids back onto the trans. Fill the trans with 3 Qts. of OEM Honda fluid. Run the gears through the gears. Then drain that fluid. Do this one more cycle. On the last fill pour a bootle of Lube Guard Additive to condtion the fluid. Good Luck

My 1997 honda prelude sh engine just dies, help me?

The only way to For sure fix this is to have a Mechanic run a Diagnostic Check on the Entire car to locate the Problem. Fixing small things here and there will not get you anywhere with this Honda.
