Question about 2001 Ford Escape

2001 ford escape-passenger door handle assembly has small hole for actuating rod to fit in to open the door from outside. This portion seems to have broken off (white metal-alum ect).Is there a fix for this or does the whole handle assembly have to be replaced. I ordered the new handle but this portion seems to be missing( or not included)? Thanks

I have the exact same problem and am trying to locate a replacement par.t any help locating the part would be appreciated.

I have the same problem all of a sudden out of nowhere, the exterior door handle on the passenger door just broke and the actual part with the hole that holds the bushing broke off and I was trying to figure out whether to try and rig it with some cold weld and a couple of washers or to replace the whole thing. Every replacement handle i find doesn't include that part. Seems to be a common thing with the 2001 ford escapes.

I just ordered the part for the inside of the door from a local ford dealer. It was in Michigan and arrived in three days to Missouri so shipping is fairly fast. The part is around $35.00. The part number is 6L8Z-78223N03-AA. Its the inside door reinforcement bracket and it comes with a new bushing for the actuator rod. I hope this helps.

You don't have to replace door handle. just the actuator. ask your ford dealer for the right part, they'll know what you need

You might try having someone inside, pulling steadily on the door handle and then 'bumping' near the latch assembly on the outside with the heel of the hand. This will cause some confused latches to let go again.

this could be a couple of problems 1 the handle portion that connects to the actuation rod is broken or the actuation rod has popped out of the handle. Either way you will need to remove the door panel to identify the problem.

sounds like the rod from the outside hande is no longer attached to the latch. probably broke at the handle. you will need to remove the inner door panel and inspect.you should be able to isolate the problem then.

The front door handle lacks tension and the door won't open from the outside. However, the door will open from the inside.

I just bought a 96 transport with that same problem on both front doors they would open from the inside but not the outside. They have a design flaw, basically when you pull the handle it pushes a piece that pivots and in turn pushes a linkage rod downward that actuates the door latch, well that pivot point is the weak spot, the pin that it hinges on is too small and will break, (I found the pivot piece and the linkage rod laying in the bottom of the door)
If you pull the door panel off their are 2 nuts holding the door handle on, take those off and the door handle will come off, the pivot pin is on then inside of the door handle, what I did was to drill a hole and put a small self tapping screw in to replace the pivot pin, and hold the pivot piece and linkage in place then put it all back through the door handle hole in the door, and set the linkage down in it's hole in the door latch assembly. The screw I used was not exactly the same size as the original pin was so the pivot piece had some play in it and did not quite push the down far enough to unlatch the door so I put two small nuts to act as washers on the bottom of the linkage rod so it would push down a little more, now it works like a charm, on the other door the linkage rod had just come out of it's hole in the door latch assembly, all I had to do was pull the inside door handle, which lowered the door latch piece and guided the rod back into its hole as I released the inside door handle and now it works too, took about an hour for both doors, a fairly easy fix, hope this helps.
