I have a 1990 chevy 3500 4wd crew cab it seems to run okay for about 10 minutes but then the service engine soon light comes on and it seems as though it is loading up but the plugs are'nt full of gas but they are black and the smaoke forom the tailpipe when you rev it is black what might cause this?

When was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor. Most people negelect replacing it every 50K or sooner if it is all short hops.

the plastic around the gear shifter will pop up with a good pull, then turn it side ways to get over the shifter, then there are 2 screws the hold the bezel down around the radio and air vents, then just pull from the air vents it will pop off to reveil the screws to the radio

disconnect the battery for 2 min.

take one of the hoses off the vacuum pump. the brakes are assisted by the pump, if you do not feel suction from the pump the pump is shot It is an easy replacement.

most any sensor going bad can cause the check engine light to come on,try disconnecting the posative battery cable for 15 seconds ,then put it back on,will reset the codes, or take it to auto zone,they will test your computer for codes at no charge to you.i had a venture van my was ox. sensor. thanks robert b.
