The problem started when the weather turned cold, but went away as spring approached, and has now returned in the heat of summer. I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, pump relay, crank position sensor, spark plugs, and plug wires.

1995 jeep wrangler yj 6 cyl.. sometimes i hear my fuel pump cycle through and it starts. other times i don't hear it, wont start. i have changed my crankshaft senor, dist. cap, rotor, and coil. my trouble code says 3-5-5, but i can't find a code that explains this. Do you think it might be, my ignition switch, MAP, or my fuel pump going out, or what do you think it might be?

  • timmy137 Nov 23, 2008

when it's cold out my 95 wrangler just turns over and over and takes about 10 times before it goes. And it still keeps running or turning over when I turn it off and remove the key. For about 5 to 10 seconds

I'm having a similiar problem. A shop said it might be my computer as well. What kind of pricees is a guy looking at and what should he ask for?

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2009

I had the same problem, with the jeep not starting until the clicking sound had completed. It wound up being the computer, after diagnosis plus new computer cost and install I was up to $700! I feel like the shop took advantage of me a little.

Well two things are happening here... the people saying fuel regulator, you guys are not having the same problem. the relay buzzing is the indicator that the computer is bad. The relays that are buzzing get engergized by the computer. Notice the Check Engine Light won;t come on until after the buzzing is over. Now the fuel problem is different from that becuse the computer is working fine but the pump can't build enough pressure in the first second (like it is suppose to do) during the priming before you turn the key to start. Sorry for all you with the computer problem ain't cheap...

Listen, You need a new computer. Those are your relays clicking. There is no signal from the relays going to your computer to tell the Jeep to turn on. Cause your computer is broke. Check online for the best price. I bought mine from autozone.

Replace your electric fuel pump. sounds like it's not building pressure properly.

I just bought my first car and it is a 1995 jeep wrangler rio GRANDE edition. I bought for $500.00 me and my dad has been working on it. The guy I bought off of broke the screws on the distrupitour cap. So when I bought it he gave me new distrupitour cap with it and fog lights. But I not worried about that the jeep will start for a minute then cut off but then it won't start up. WE put new spark plugs and wires in it. So PLEASE if any one has a solution to it post it up. Becuase we'r A JEEP FAMILY MY DAD HAS A 2002 JEEP WRANGLER CJ that has a 2 INCH LIFT KIT ON IT THEN MY MOM HAS A JEEP LIBERTY AND THE 1995 JEEP WRANGLER RIO GRANDE IS MINE I'M ONLY 16 YRS OLD DON'T HAVE MY TEMPS BUT I NEED A SOLUTION

THANK YOU

Just had the same problem, check OB comp, it all checked out, Checked sensors, all checked out. Checked my vacuum houses, hmmm a lil worn, some cracks, but pleny of vacuum in there, hmm, then i checked one last thing, the fuel pressure regulator at the top of the fuel rail... YEppers, dripping fuel and causing Air to enter the fuel line. Everytime ya turn the key, ya gotta wait for the fuel line to charge up and fill, hence why she's a crankin over and over.

Gues what, changed he regulator. 25 minute job, and charged my system lines, and wallah half a crank later, i was in business

94 wrangler 4.0 fuel pump wont turn on

If your check engine light does not illuminate when you turn the ignition on then your jeep ecu is in need of repair. The check engine light has to be on for the fuel pump to get power. Try leaving the ignition key in the on position for a few minutes to see if the check engine light does eventually come on and if the fuel pump starts to work then.

Your engine computer is bad. Either you need to open it up and replace the three power caps or you need to get a new computer. The computer is not sending current to the relays. That's what's causing the delayed check engine light on your jeep.

Sounds like a faulty / intermittent Earth connection. Check all the battery and earth leads where they connect to the Battery, Engine, Starter Motor and Body. If possible disconnect, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint that could cause a poor connection, and reconnect making sure all are tight.

Did you check your battery cables? If they are loose or corroded you may not be getting a good connection, and of course it takes less power to start a car on a warm day than a cold one.

Please refer to this solution: http://www.fixya.com/cars/t1016149-1989_jeep_cherokee

It's probably the A/C relay under the hood indeed. And your battery might have gone bad too.

I had the same problem with my 1997 Wrangler. I seem to of solved this by turning the ignition to off then depressing the lock on the immobilizer. Then waited for about 10-15 seconds after the red light on the dash quit blinking fast . Then I hit the unlock on the immobilizer and the Jeep started and ran ok. I guess the immobilizer is the culprit and it doesn't unlock initially
