If yours is the same model as mine (W201, 1993 model) on the left rear underbelly, just ahead of the left rear axle you will find a sub-assembly of the fuel pump and fuel filter. Caution, there is no way to isolate the fuel line, so if you're going to replace it, do the job on an almost-empty tank.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

option a, if the car is running, connect an adapter with a pipe to the fuel rail, and put the other end of the pipe in container. then start the car.
option b, is to detach one of the pipes from underneath the car at the fuel tank.
option c, lift up the rear seat, open one of the covers of the fuel pump or fuel filter, remove either one and you will be able to scoop out fuel from the tank.
I believe the door is hinged about 1/3 of the way back. If you press on the door toward the front of the car it should swing open. Make sure your doors are not locked because it also locks the fuel door.

Hello. The fuel filter is located underneath the car, directly between the back seat doors; however, if you are jacking-up your car, it is much easier to reach it by using the drivers side.
Once you have the car leveraged, you will notice a cover/panel (note: the older the model, the more it will look like it is part of the car) with at lease two (2) screws (+/- 10/11 MM) holding the cover/panel in its place.
After you have removed the two (2) screws, the cover/panel will hang down - underneath is fuel filter and fuel pump and you will need a 14 MM open-ended wrench to remove the filter.
When removing, be cautious, the filter will have excess gas left in it and it will spill. Regards, Joe. AND please rate my answer. Thank you!
Removal & Installation
Two types of filters are used, depending on the vehicle. Both are located between the rear axle and the fuel tank.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Unscrew the cover box.
Fuel pump/filter assembly
Fuel pump package cover
Remove the gas cap, fuel pump cover and pressure hoses.
Loosen the screws and remove the filter. Remove the connecting plug from the old filter and install it on a new filter using a new gasket.
Install a new filter in the direction of flow. Always replace the copper gaskets.
Replace the attaching screws.
Install the pressure hoses, pump cover and gas cap. Torque the banjo fittings to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
Install the fuel filter in the holder by positioning it in the center of the transparent holder. Be sure the plastic sleeve between the fuel filter and fuel pump is installed. Galvanic corrosion may occur in cases of direct contact between these components.
Replace the cover box and check for proper sealing.
