i had the same problem! its not the dash switch.. its a controler under the hood on the inner fender.. alittle 3"x3" box..controls the lights(daylights fog lights, etc)

I have the same problem. I checked the controller under the hood and it seems to be fine. Is that a fuse? All the other fuses are ok. My brights work when I hold the multi-function switch towards me. HELP

  • jhansencolo Dec 12, 2008

My head lights will not come on when it is cold and wet out. It works fine rest of the time. If I let truck warm up, then sometimes they will magically pop-on.

  • bb2wiz Dec 21, 2008

I put in new high power headlights then no headlights work... fuse is OK put in lower power lights still does not work...all other lights still work. What could it be?

  • bicyclebob Dec 31, 2008

I have no power to the headlights. The driving lights work in the low beam position, the high beam works in the flash position. The fuse under the hood is good. Where does the circuit go from there?

  • knownukes Feb 20, 2009

'97 Ram 1500 no more headlights: park lights & brake lights working fine (fuse is good). Headlights were working fine on 1/2 hour trip home from work - stopped for dinner ~ 1 hour - no lights! Engine turns over strong so doesn't seem 2b a weak battery issue.

1999 Dodge Ram had this trouble for a few years. Thought I fixed it twice now and it's back. The headlights will start going out depending on where I have the tilt steering column located. I have read some of the responses and I think it is in the thin wiring in the column that probably has broken from the constant tilting of the column. I have had the column apart a few times and when I jiggle the wires the lights go off and on. The first time I found a wire that was broken and soldered it together. Thought I fixed it. Then about 4 years later I had the same problem and, realized I had repaired a wire that goes to a ring around the steering wheel which I assume is for the airbag. I now am on the fourth attempt at fixing this problem. The last time I pulled the column apart and jiggled the wires and tried to seperate the ones that didn't make them flicker from ones that did. After about 80% of the wires were seperated it wouldn't do it again. So I put it back together and it lasted only about three months and here I go again. I am going through the wiring diagram today to try to figure out which wire is faulty. I do know that the fog and running lights are on seperate circuts and the switches aren't bad so, I hapefully can answer the question today. The only "SOLUTION" I have seen on here was for an oil leak! WHAT THE!!!!!!!

I had the same problem; 1998 1500 3.9L V6 stick shift- My headlights wouldn't come on and if I held in the high beam I could get them to work.
I read around and ended replacing the headlight/dome light switch ($20?) to troubleshoot. After removing the old one, pull the panel off and it's like one screw, and installing the new switch. undo the harness off the back and plug it on the new switch, I had lights again!
For the price it's a good cheap trouble shooting purchase... and if it doesn't help take it back to Autozone! :)
Hope this helps,
Tre

I have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 same problem as listed in all the questions we found that the headlight wire was pulling out of the plug in the steering column. the clip that holds the wire in the plug had just plain wore out do to tilting. You cannot see it right a way we had to pull on the wire just a little and that's how we found the problem. we taped mine in place and it has been working fine since.

1996 dodge Ram 1500 4x4 headlights dont work. All other lights work. Headlight lamps are all good. Could it be the switch or the multifunction switch? High beam works when I pull on the directional le

The headlight switch gets power for the headlights from a 50amp fuse.
The fuse powers the headlight switch then the dimmer switch breaks for high and low beams. So if the high beams work, the problem may be with the dimmer switch.
The dimmer switch is made into the turn signal switch on the column. You would need to check the low and high beam circuits at the switch for power.

Lowbeam headlight dont work, not the bulb, high beam and all other lights work.

Make sure you use the right light because the high beams and low beams use different lights. I think the low beam is H4531 and the high is H4532.

Low beam not work !!

replace the headlight bulbs. Usually when the bulbs blow out the low beam blows out first, but the high beams still work. If you want and need both low and high beams to work then replace the headlight bulbs with brand new ones and I garauntee that both low and high beams will work

Headlights wont work

Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!!
Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.

The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all.
But the regular lights do.
Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this...
Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on?
As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.

05 Jeep Wrangler High Beams Work, Low Beams dont

There are no relays for the headlights. Your problem could be from the headlight switch. You would have to check and see if you have power coming out of the switch on the low beam side. Check with a test light.

High beams wont turn on.

First place to start is with headlight switch. I did have a case many years ago when both high beams were blown out at once, but this is rare. When you have the headlight switch out, jump power from te low beams to the high beam contacts. If high beams come on, replace switch.
