Can a locked ignition on a 2004 Pontiac Aztex only be repaired by the dealership since the key has a chip? Cee

Its only a Ford and I am surprised you got nothing from the dealer.
I would contact Ford and ask why.
Vehicles have a life, the components used have an extended life so will still be available.

If your key has the little "chip" or resistor in it, that may be the problem. Try cleaning the chip to see if that helps. It could be the electronics inside the tumbler are not reading the chip. Try leaving the key in the ignition in the off position for 10 minutes then try it. If that didn't help then the anti theft system if probably failing. If it is, then you have two options. One is to take it to a dealership for repair. The dealership will have to replace 3 parts counting the key, which will cost you about $1000. The second option is to bypass the anti theft system.
