Question about 2002 Chrysler 300M

1 Answer

I have a 2002 300M with about 95,000 miles. The check engine light comes on for a fews days then turns off. I brought it for a scan and found that the code is P0700. Does that mean I need a new transmission or can it be something less serious.

The check engine light is not a big cause for concern. Most of the time it relates to emmision controls or engine controls, but it will not die on you from one of these conditions. Simply get a auto parts store to pull the code for you and find out what is causing the light to come on. I know Autozone pulls codes for free, once you find out what is tripping the light we can go from there on fixing it. If you do manage to reset the light if the problem is still there the light will return. What happened earlier was the cars computer reseting and relearning the idle speed.

I took my 2003 Honda Accord to a local muffler shop to have it inspected. My check engine light had been on for about a month prior to the time I took it in, and of course, I was informed that it would not...

I would have taken the car to one of the auto parts chain stores for a free scan of the errors stored in your computer. Write them down and comment back to this same thread with the error codes. The normal structure for researching them is:
P(four digits) such as P0100 which as a generic code translates into: MAF or VAF A Circuit Malfunction
Some scanners will only display '100' in which case one must add the leading '0'
You can often search on line by entering the make, year and model of car and the code found as described above.

If the check engine light is on something is wrong, if the problem was fixed then driving will clear the light, when the codes where checked they should of cleared the light, have the light turned off then drive for a few days then if the light doesnt return then take the test, if the light is off then drive for a few days and retest, this is correct if the light was turned off it takes a few days of driving so that the computer can retest the sysem and make sure eveything is working . hope this helps.

Check Engine Light comes every few days

Is this an O2 sensor code? If so then check the wiring to the sensor. Since the light comes on every few days then it is intermittent. Once the fault goes away then the light goes out. Fault comes back and the light comes on. Check the wiring carefuly to insure there is not a bare spot somewhere and is touching the engine or some other metal part of the car. Check the connector to ensure it latches firmly. Check the terminals inside both of the connectors to make sure thye have not spread open, are not dirty, or corroded. I once found a connection inside a fuse panel on a 97 LHS car that was not stripped back far enough at the factory. This caused and intermittent open circuit to the fuel pump. I have also reapired many a lose and dirty connector causing the check engine light to come on. Also some aftermarket parts like O2 sensors, MAP sensors, etc are made cheap and fail soon after installation. You get what you pay for. Cheap is not always a bargain.

Maintainance Check

Our 2006 Corolla has a "Maintenance Required" light in addition to the "Check Engine" one. MR light comes on every 5000 miles telling you to change oil and whatever's in the book. To turn it off,
Set Cluster Display to ODOMETER (not Trip A or Trip B)
Ignition Off
Hold Cluster Display button down
Ignition On, Continue to Hold button down
Odometer will change to "----------" then return to Miles Display
Light goes Out
