Question about 1993 Mazda MX-3

Open Question

I have a 1993 Mazda MX-3 Precidia. I has not been driven in a few years. Put fresh gas in,new battery, changed the plugs, put new thermostat in....had it running for over 2 hours in the driveway just to make sure everything was working. I picked up new licence plates and insurance and surprised my daughter for her birthday .Everything is great....put plates on the car....and now it won't start. It turns over but it is not getting gas....the fuel pump does not come on when you turn the key to the on position. This was a new fuel pump that I put in two years ago...used a circuit tester and there is no power getting to the fuel pump. Found out there is a fuel circuit relay.....not cheap around 100 dollars. The thing is nobody can test the relay and once you buy it your stuck with it even if it is not the problem.Okay my question is is there anything else on this Mazda that would cause the fuel pump not the recieve power...ie is there a fuel pump reset switch and where ?

SOURCE: electrical issues (2 or 3) with Mazda Tribute 2002

hello there, there is a way to check if the alternator works, just start the engine and run it at idle for a minute or so just to get the engine warmed up. while the engine is running, try to remove the positive terminal cable from the battery (note: no lights, radio, or any accessories operating). the alternator should be sufficiently providing power to the engine. if it dies down the charging might be weak. another way is purchase a digital multimeter and setting it to dc voltage testing. put the tester prongs on the correct terminal( positive to red positive and negative to black negative) test the voltage prior to starting. usually it shall read 12. 3 or a tad higher. remove the tester prongs from the battery terminal and start the engine. then place it back on. the reading shall read 14V plus without any load. sometimes it might read 15V w/c is usually over for certain cars. then turn on all accessories: headlights, aircondition/heater and etc. if the reading on the tester indicates 12.8V and above 13V your charging system is ok.(all this test is on engine idle)

For the battery, my experience is that 2 years of battery duty is quite good already. unfortunately, during these span of duty the battery might give a 12V reading but its strength is not enough to sustain the load. the voltage of the battery is the physical attribute so to speak and ampere is the power or strength of the battery.

for your accessories that died, I think something tripped when you jump started it. but the accessories are easily traceble. I think what's important is keeping the engine in tip top condition and won't let you down during hard times.

hope some of this helps you.

SOURCE: 1996 mazda mx6 ls cranks but won't start

you may need to run a wire from a keyed ignition source that has power while cranking and running to the fuel pump relay and bypass the pcm to test wether it will run, if it runs put a more permanent wire in place. Not too sure what tests youve done but it seems that fuel is what your focusing on so a quick test is too spray engine start up the intake tube to see if the engine trys to run if it does it eliminates a lot of other potential reasons for a no start condition. Also try squeezing the fuel return line to see if the added pressure will try to make engine run.Could be time to replace fuel pump etc anyway let me know how it goes good luck with it

SOURCE: Mazda mx3 wont start

VSS or vehicle speed sensor aka cam sensor or crank position sensor. Test the battery and alternator. You should also check for blown fuses, bad wires and grounds on a car as old as yours. If you find it's getting spark and fuel after further testing, check the timing belt. It could have slipped or broke even if it was changed recently so either pull off the cover or at least do a compression test.

SOURCE: I just recently changed the water pump on my 96

Since you have double checkedthe timing and checked the battery make sure you are getting a spark at the plugs and that you are getting fuel. Make sure all sensors are plugged in and are working. Check near the crankshaft (front) for a small sensor and be sure it is plugged in. This is because some vehicles have a crankshaft position sensor to regulate when the spark is delivered to the plugs.

SOURCE: 93 mazda mx6 wont run. will start but runs very

If yours is the v6 2.5 the tps is adjustable and you can turn it up and down. On my mazda it acted like it was in the fuel system and i ended up replacing the distributor.

Engine compatibility for a 1996 maxda Mx-3 precidia

If you have a 4 cyl motor, that any 4cyl will fit from an MX-3 (and a few other vehicles actually).

If you have a V6, then you can use any other MX-3 1.8L OR MX-6 OR Ford Probe OR Millenia 2.5L V6 motor (160hp)! You can import the KLZE (200hp) from japan for around $1300 and it will also fit (2.5L V6).

Either your belt broke to your alternator, or your alternator went out.
