You can douche it out with marvel mystery oil and then sea foam. when it is all said and done you are going to have to go in and replace the lifters, they are old. i would get a repair manual, and also look around for a replacement engine with much lower mileage, or possibly a rebuilt engine with exchange.

I have a 2006 grand prix with noisy lifters.

No ,drain a drop of oil out of the engine say a litre then add a tin of gunk engine cleaner and a squirt of green proper fairy liquid ,then drive around for a few a few days and if the noise goes then change the oil and filter and use a multigrade oil for petrol and diesel engines and change often around 6000kms with a oil filter every third oil change ,if it doesnt work then renew the cam followers or trade it in for a newer car

How much does it cost to replace the lifters

Typically one does not replace all the lifters except during major engine overhaul and when Camshaft and Camshaft bearing is being replaced as well. It is much more common that noisy valve train is misdiagnosed and is really a sign of other problems. Noisy valves and upper end can be a sign of lowered oil pressure. As engines age and main bearing wears, oil pressure will naturally decline with time. However if excessive wear occurs, or if dirt / foreign object has clogged vital oil gallery supply, wear can accumulate much more rapidly.
In short...less oil pressure means more wear...more wear means less oil pressure...
I would first get an idea of the overall condition of the engine. A dirty engine/lifters can first be treated by draining one quart of oil and replace with a quart of transmission fluid and run it for a day or two. The detergents can loosen and clean oil gallerys and lifters. Then drain, change filter, and fill with 10W-40 (4.5 quarts). Otherwise main bearing/oil pump renew or engine overhaul might be in order.

Ford Mondeo 2010 lifters noisy

Hi, the lifters can be noisy of luck of oil. Check what oil should be used on your car specification. If they still noisy that mean you need to replace them.

Noisy start in the morning

I am assuming that you used el cheapo oil filter rather than a known brand in the service. Oil filters have a non drain back valve built into the filter to stop your problem but some cheap or wrong filters do not have this valve hence your problem.. The noise goes when the oil pressure fills up all the hydraulic lifters and oil pressure is achieved.

Why are the lifters of my pajero io noisy

those engines are known for lifters draining in order to restore them you must run the engine rpm about 2000 rpm for 5 minutes .they shoudld quiet down mitsubishi says to run them at 4000 rpm for 10 min,but i rebuild *** engines for 20+ years i dont recomend this with out causing damage to eng just hold the rpm to 2000 until the get quiet make sure you have fresh oil and the engine as good oil press

All lifters started clicking at once

Sounds more likely to be a timing rattle rather then all the lifters at once making noise, if your EGR valve is bad this will happen and if the timing is off it will also do this, I can't buy the theory all 16 hydraulic lifters are noisey unless you over reved it something fierce, or ran it out of oil, or had someone loosen all the rockers.

Ticking in engine after oil change

this ticking problem is probably your hydraulic lifters, when the oil is drained they also drained and they sometimes take a while to bleed so they may be noisy... the noise should be coming from the top of the engine...

I would just check that you put in the right oil aswell just incase, if the oil was to thin it may be a little noisy.. its definately a good idea to make sure the right oil was put in (e.g. 40w-50) < this is the viscosity of the oil and to find out just ask someone in you auto parts store what oil a 92 geo storm should take...

but if the noise goes away after a drive then it was just the lifters and is not a big prob

Valve Lifters

This car has hydraulic self-adjusting lifters - there is no mechanical adjustment. Go to the local parts store and get a can of Seafoam - pour half the can in the oil, drive 30-40 miles, and change the oil and filter. It's possible that oil sludge is preventing a lifter from pumping up. Seafoam is good at clearing that stuff out.
