Its the spark plug coils. Each spark plug has a coil to fire the plug.If the coil is not giving fire to plugs, it will miss.Replace complete coil pack. ---------- Also is the check engine light coming ON.If yes, then get the vehicle scanned and retrieve the error codes. As per the error codes, it will point out, which coil pack is causing no or low spark. So as per that you can replace that coil. Then you would go to that cylinder and pull the plug out and check out the plug. This will help.At autozone service center its absolutely free to get the vehicle scanned. You can also get it scanned at local car garage. But if there is no check engine light coming ON dash, then you will need to get the coil pack checked and replaced.Reverse each cylinder and see if it solves the problem, at the low sparking coil. ------------ This will help locating the faulty coil pack.As per that you can replace the faulty party.Thanks.Helpmech.

Yes, its noticed many a times. But not all at one time.It slowly-- slowly goes bad one at a time. But its exactly noticed, when all goes bad.So we assume how all got faulty at once.---But still get the voltage checked. This will confirm the fault. If all the coils are checked faulty, then it has to be replaced.-------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

2001 Expedition - check engine light came on. Oil change on 1/27/11 not due for another 1000 miles. It just started to tremble and is running rough.

your oil change has nothing to do with your check engine light. probably needs spark plugs and a coil or 2

I changed the plugs, fuel filter, coil pack, and injector...now what?? its still missing and reading cylinder 5 missfire!!!

You either have another bad COP Coil and possibly
#5 wasn't bad either,or other issues

Check for vacuum leaks

If the O2 Sensors have 100,000 miles
change the front 2 only, with OEM,not a
cut and splice thing. NAPA can order them

Disconnect the vacuum hoses to the EGR Valve,
plug and drive a couple of days,to see if it is the issue.

Clean the MAF with CRC MAF Cleaner
Clean Throttle Plate with CRC Throttle Body Cleaner

Check fuel pressure at fitting on fuel rail with a gauge

What codes do you have?

MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 4 AND 6 WITH AN ENGINE LIGHT ON

Check the coil packs on the plug if equipped with that type, or the coil packs at the end of the spark plug wires, if so equipped.

Also, check that the fuel injectors are firing on all 8 cylinders.

Definitely, check out what other codes are stored in the computer besides a missing condition.

I have a 1999 Expedition that had a miss on a cylinder, and it turned out to be a bad coil pack. You have 2 cylinders missing, so I would check each cylinder for good spark, or replace the coil packs as necessary to see if that resolves the problem.

Good luck on this repair.

1997 ford expedition 190k miles. Engine was missing. code said it was miss firing in the third cylinder. Replaced all ignition coils and sprak plugs also fuel pump. After 100 miles it started with the same...

It could be a bad computer that doesn't fire the fuel injector on that cylinder. Or, the fuel injector is clogged on that cylinder.

The fuel injector should have a telltale click when listening to it operating on that cylinder, and it should also make a noid light blink indicating current is getting to the fuel injector, when the fuel injector harness is connected to a noid light.

Good luck on this repair.

I have a 2003 Expedition 5.4L Triton. Two days ago, with low gas (38 miles to empty), engine started running rough. Code read P0302, misfire cyl. 2. Since it had 113K miles, I figured its time to change...

Most likely the coils. Easiest way to check is swap them with another cylinder, start it, pull the plug wire connecter and if it doesn't change the engine the coil is bad. If it is the injector, then you can check it with an ohm meter. Touch the leads in the injector it should read 11 to 15 ohms. if you need help let me know.

Where are the fuel injectors located on 2001 ford expedition?

Doesn't sound as though you should get involved, working on vehicles

First the sparks plugs are missing, now the injectors, that are looking right at you.
Ever wonder where all the wires go? 8 Coils,8 Injectors.

I have a 2001 Ford Expedition 4.6 4WD. Service engine soon light came on and when checked at parts store diagnostics said cylonder #2 miss firing. Is this a coil pack because we can't find plugs,...

If you do not see a distributor or spark plug wires, then you have a coil over plug system. Changing the coil pack is as easy as removing the hold down bolt and lifting the coil pack off the spark plug. Other things should be checked like signal to the coil, the fuel injector signal and the spark plug

remove the coil pack and look at bottom of it if it shows any cracks coil is bad very common on these vans if you have a noid light check for injector pulse on #4 if you have pulse and good blue spark most likely the injector is bad you have to remove upper plenum to get injectors out let me know how you make out
