it sounds like the vacuum lines are off or it needs a tune up and a drive belt put some STP gas treatment in the gas tank make sure the car has a half a tank and if the car starts running better change the fuel filter

The battery could be slightly weak, making the computer go on the fritz,
try a fresh battery!!!!
The rev counters bounce often with a weak battery.

Woah woah! Please do not drive it any further. A shuddering and loss of power most likely, from description, is a blown cylinder! Hold on to your pants, that is just a possibility however. Please take this to a professional to ensure you get some serious help should this be the case. If there was a knocking or rattling sound before, you might have popped a piston loose, rolled some rockers loose, etc. Please don't drive this anywhere though.
