Question about Mazda MAZDA6

1 Answer

I Have an 06 Mazda 6 that was started in gear (manual transmission) as the clutch was in need of repair. The car was shut off in gear and a a consequence the intake valves contacted the pistons and were bent. Timing chain was checked and was still "in time" and appeared in good shape. How is this possible?

The car was NOT over reved, the chain was tight and in time. Could a faulty chain tensioner "**** loose" momentarily as the car stalled in gear, causing the valves to hit the pistons. I know what happened but not how it happened. Customer wants me to buy him a new engine, but I did not do what i'm told has to be done in order for the valves to contact the pistons.

That is not possible, if the valves hit the pistons then the engine has to be out of time, i would take a good look at the timing chain again, and test the timing chain tensenor, there is no way the clutch could have done this unless someone over reved the engine, that could cause the valves to hit, probably around 9,000-10,000 RPM, if you find that the engine is still in time then what must have happened is the engine floted the valves the only time we see this is on race engines when the driver misses a shift.

good luck

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

if the tensenor is weak it could cause the chain to jump and bend the valves, but it would not jump back into time, i am not sure what happend but the killing the engine in gear will not cause this problem, if that were the case look at how many times the engine gets stalled wile trying to teach a new driver how to drive a stick shift. if you bent the valves every time you staled the engine we be replacing heads all day long, i dont think you are being told every thing that has happend with this car.

Shifter is in neutral. Why is manual transmission stuck in 3rd gear?

Internal transmission breakage has stuck the thing in 3rd gear. Stalls when putting in other gears because transmission is then being put into 2 gears at once. Better look into getting another transmission of having the current unit overhauled and repaired.

Hi i drained and replaced the tranny fluid in my manual 2005 mazda 6 and now it wont go into any gear.is there air in the clutch line or did i just completely ruin my tranny?

Did you do anything with the clutch line? What type of fluid did you use in the transmission? How does the clutch feel(really tight/stuck, to the floor/soft, normal)?

Where do we find the place to put the clutch/gear fluid for a manual transmission for my mazda mx-6 1993.

The clutch on mazda cars shares the same fluid reservoir as the brakes. Bleeding the clutch is just like the brakes. The clutch slave cylinder is on the front side of the transaxle. You can find it by following the line from the master cylinder that does not go to the ABS unit/brakes. bleed just like brakes, you have to pump cl utch to get are out of it.

Manual transmission wont go into gear unless engine is off. Starts fine, air runs. Feels like it is locked out of gear. Don't know if it is clutch or transmission

if you have to shut off the car to get it in gear then you either need to adjust the clutch or repair the slave cylinder.check your fluid level for the clutch, owners manual will tell you how.

Mazda 121 manual gear box stuck in gear

What do you mean "rooted" ?
Generally if a manual transmission is stuck in gear it points to one or several of 6 possibilities ( barring any damage to hard parts such as gears or shafts.)
1: Damaged shift linkage.
2: Worn clutch.
3: Faulty clutch slave cylinder.
4: Damaged fork assembly.
5: Damaged synchronizers.
6: Bad throwout bearing.

Be prepared for sticker shock when pricing repairs or parts !
Mazdas are not cheap to buy parts for or to work on.
( thats why I will never own one )

2005 Madza 6 6cylinder starts but has no acceleration

Heya,

Firs thing you can do to insure your clutch hasn't "gone" is start the car normally in gear. Obviously with your foot on the clutch. If it starts normally, your clutch is fine, if it jumps forward, it's your clutch.

Do you have any engine lights on?
