Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Hello I bought a car used and had to change the steering wheel and had to unhook the battery. After I hooked it back up my radio locked out and my manual said I needed the code to reset it but I don't have it. What do I do?

Call a GM dealer, ask for service department. briefly explain your malady, they only hear this dozens of times per day. either they can give you a code or send you to a website with specific instructions.

After changing a battery my car cant start and steering is block what to do

Hello,

I assume your saying your steering is Locked? Try turning your steering wheel, this should release the locked position, so you can start your car!

This is an anti-lock theft protection!

Kind regards!

How do you remove a steering wheel on a 1993 Cadillac Sedan Deville?

remove the cover screws located at the back of the steering wheel, in the recessed holes, CAUTION: before doing anything with the steering section of your car ,, unhook the NEGITIVE battery cable first , then unhook the positive and wait 10 minutes before doing anything else,, this will allow the air bag system to discharge. when your done with your repairs, Hook it back up in the reverse order,,

How do you change out the lock and key switch. can it be done without taking the steering wheel off.

NOPE IF KEY SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER IN STEERING COLUMN THE STEERING WHEEL AND AIRBAG IN STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE DISARMED AND DISCONNECTED AND REMOVED.YOU CAN DISARM AIRBAG BY FIRST TURNING OFF RADIO THEN DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY WAIT 20 MINUTES FOR AIRBAG DISCHARGE BEFORE REMOVING IT.YOU WILL NEED A STEERING WHEEL PULLER.DONT USE HAMMER OR YOU WILL COLAPSE THE STEERING COLUMN.

if you have an anti-theft radio option, when you disconnect the battery you disable the radio. there is a code you need to activate so this does'nt happen, but you must do it before you disconnect the battery. by taking the truck to a dealer, he will use the VIN number and the radio serial number to get the reactivation code from the GM tech service computer bank----------just another example of the useless **** GM puts on their vehicles and costs their customers more money and time.

try unhooking the cars battery for fifteen minutes then hooking it back up. they probably did this at the shop when they were finished to clear the engine trouble codes. my car radio recently acted up all i had to do was unhook the battery then it worked like new.
