Water does not compress, so a cylinder with water/coolant in it is frozen and the starter can not turn the crank. remove your sparkplugs, making sure you label what plug wire goes where, maybe even use your cell phone camera and take some "before" pictures. if it spins with no plugs in then you had something frozen. a green spark plug is a clue to which one is bad.

I have a 1978 MGB..wont turn over..clicking that the starter motor?

Make sure your cables to the starter and battery are tight and clean. A good jump will test if the battery is the problem. Starters can become intermittent before they go totally bad. Corrosion on cables and connectors can interfere with voltage delivery. Start system needs really good battery connections and just having lights is not a good enough indication. A strong click and no spin usually means the connectors in the solenoid are not engaging or the brushes in the armature are worn out. A whimpy click usually means a bad connection or low battery.

My 95 ford escort is trying to turn over but it wont what does that mean? its making a kind of a light strain though.

weak battery, weak starter, bad connection somewhere along the way, make sure you check the ground cable at the block, they like to get loose there or corrode. I have seen good starters get replaced and still not go,then the ground cable was the culprit.

My truck has new batteries but sometimes wont start cked all connections ,good to go im thinking neutal censing switch on tranny pls hlp ty

It could be that,or,the starter, next time it does this, tap on the starter,do not hit real hard,as you try and start it,these starters are low gear reduction starters, with a permanent magnet in them, they use contacts instead of brushes, and they where out,and cause no start situations.

Car wont turn over after replaced bad batt.still had prob, replaced luck ran fine for 2 days prior. motor will turn over by hand. thinking elec prob both starters worked fine off car.

Does the starter engage? Or does the solenoid just click? I would look to be sure you have very good connections on the heavy ground and +12 line to the starter. Make sure the battery connections are good.
I have also seen problems where the starter physically binds when mounted.

There is either a cable not getting a very good connection, solenoid has problems, or there is a wiring leading to a relay that has a bad connections. How is your ignition? Is it loose or have loose wires?

also check the magnetic switch mounted on the starter housing, is supplied by current from the starting switch circuit of the ignition switch. This magnetic action of the switch mechanically engages the starter clutch assembly and electrically closes the heavy switch which connects it to the battery. The starting switch circuit consists of the starting switch contained within the ignition switch, a transmission neutral safety switch or clutch pedal switch, and the wiring necessary to connect these in series with the starter solenoid or relay.

Engine won.t turn

hi can you turn engine over by hand [engine s not sezied ] and how did you test the battery and how did you test starter because if the engines not seized and you put a jump lead from your positive terminal off a good battery to a starters main terminal and it wont, turn over the starters faulty or there is no engine earth so connect the other jump lead from the negative battery teminal to the engine block and try again it will turn over if the starters good if the starter turns over with the jump leads check the small terminal on the starters wire is live when someone turns the ignition key if it is and the starter does not turn over then the soleniod on the starter is faulty if no live at small terminal then the ignition switch or starter relay are faulty best of luck yates2104546
