Question about 2003 Pontiac Vibe

1 Answer

2003 Pontiac Vibe GT. Takes for ever to fill the gas tank. I can hear the gas backing up after about a half a gallon. I've seen this problem on the web but no solutions yet. Thanks John

I think there may be a kink or pinch in the hose connecting the gas tank to the filler cap assembly. you will want to get under your car right under the gas cap door where you would fill up and check the hoses mainly the large one while not ignoring the smaller one which is for ventilation of your gas tank and just make sure that those hoses are not too long causing the hose to crimp somewhere in the middle obstructing the flow of gas to the tank. hope this helps. goodluck!

Was there a solution to the slow fill issue? I have an 03 Vibe that just started doing the same thing! Email is honda811@verizon.net.

I have a 2005 vibe and also have the same problem- actually took it to the dealer and they supposedly fixed it - not, still having the same problem.

When I go to put gas in my 2005 pontiac vibe gt, the gas keeps shutting off while I am pouring. I have tried pushing the nozzle in further, bairly in, pumping slowly, pumping gas with it lifted, lowered,...

What happens if you fill from a portable gas can? No spills on the ground other than from the fill location? Do you have a "locking cover"? Air needs to come out of the tank, It is possible something has gotten into the fill neck of the tank preventing fuel from going into the tank. The portable gas can may reveal that kind of problem. Has anyone tried to work on the fuel system, perhaps the emission system? If so take it back. It almost sounds like the vacuum pump is "discharging" into the tank. So the correct "plumbing" connections have been compromised. or the pump is running backwards, so the electrical connections have been compromised. Is the car just back from collision repair? Take it back.

Does bad spark plugs burn gas faster

First question is yes bad or worn plugs can burn more gas to generate the same amount of power.
Second question, you could fill up the tank and record the mileage, then fill it up again when it measures half a tank and compare.
If the gas gauge is working correctly it should take half the total number of gallons the tank holds to fill it up again. And the miles you drove divided by the number of gallons used equals your gas mileage.

Try to fill gas tank, gas pump nozzle clicks off, sometimes as much as 10 times in 1 gallon pumped. Something wrong with pipe to tank?

There should be an air vent coming from the top of the gas tank back to the top of the fuel tank. Possibly kinked or pinched, try pulling the fuel nozzle about half way out and filling the tank on the lowest setting the fuel pump will let you.

2003 KIA Sarento - trying to pure gas in filler tubr to gas tank

i used to have the same problem with one of my older ford trucks. what happens is because the gas is filling up the tube so quick, it forms a reverse vacume and causes all the gas to come back at you. all i used to do is when i went to get gas i would have to not pull the lever on the gas pump as hard (bout half way) and it would take the gas very nicely.

Fuel filling clicks off repeatedly when not full

i had the same problem on my 2003 vibe... they replaced the filler tube also and it didn't fix it then they replaced the entire fuel filling system including the venting tupe and located a bee hive honeycomb in the vent line and that was what was causing the problem and have no problems since. hope this helps.

Filling with gas

There is a fuel tank vent tube that runs down the filler tube to let the air out of the tank as you fill it, these tubes get kinked, replace the tube, this is part of the filler neck assembly so the whole thing must be changed out.
