Question about Chevrolet Corsica

4 Answers

I have a 1996 Chevy Corsica that is running roughly. Could the main problem be an egr valve or do you think it is probably because of original wires, plugs, etc. (because they have the numbers on them) and a major tuneup would be more valuable? I am getting different opinions.

I have a 1996 Chevy Corsica that is running roughly. I took it to the mechanic and he said the first thing that needed done was to change the egr valve. It was completely stalling out after that was replaced. Do you feel that is the first thing that should have been done or do you think giving it a major tune-up would have been more beneficial as the first course of action since it had original wires (with the numbers on) etc. Also, the engine light was not on.

Sometimes it just feels like it is going to die and sometimes it keeps stalling out but starts up again. The engine light is not on.

It is running roughly at all speeds and at idling. We have not gotten it up to 50-60 miles per hour. At 35mph it is quite a problem. Could it be the egr valve or a major tuneup that it needs since there are original wires, spark plugs, etc.

Do you have the 3.1L in this car. I have a 90 lumina that had the same problem. Cleaned out the TPS and it could also be your EGR as well. Does it do it all the time? I would give it a full tune up along with cleaning the TPS, after that I am sure you will see vast improvement. Thanks and if you need any other assistance let me know,

A few questions first. Does it run rough at all speeds? Does it surge forward? Is there anything else that you could say to be more descriptive?

Is it stalling at high speeds or at idle?

One thing to look into is a vacuum leak

Go for the tune up due to the year and the suspect original parts to check egr press on underside it should have some resistance but as stated earlier i recommend tune up relatively cheap too whether its the 2.5 or 2.8/3.1 engine

Your egr port is probably block..Apply vacuum to your EGR valve, while the vehicle is running..The vacuum should hold and the vehicle should run very rough or even go dead..If the valve doesnt hold vacuum,,then replace the valve..If the valve holds vacuum, but there is no difference or very little difference,,the EGR port is clogged in your intake..If all works fine ,,then suspect the DPFE sensor..This tells the computer if your receiving any flow..from the EGR

1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up performed Changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor wheel along with all spark plug wires, changed fuel filter, air filter, spent $150 on fuel injector...

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

I have a 96 chevy blazer with a 4.3 vortec rough

Do a compression test on all of your cylinders when it is cold. Backfiring is a sign of a worn valve seat allowing mixed fuel and air (lit by spark) to be forced back into the intake. You will probably see compression loss on one or more cylinders.

Also... there is a chance that the EGR valve is not totally seated when the engine is cold with just a small blow by. The EGR valve seats coke up over time with black gunk.

1992 chevy corsica runs rough, stall or dies after stopping

Sounds the EGR valve and EVP sen is bad even if you tested it. The EGR valve cntrols idle and if carbon up will make the car stall or idle high and low (rpms going up and down) This was common on all cars during that time. I would say replace the EGR valve and senosr. This should take care of the problem. One more thing have the fuel pressure check on the car.

Yes, take it back. The might of replaced the Egr valve to turn off the light. Don't let them charge you for retesting it, that's why you took it in in the first place.

Corsica stalls at stop signs

sounds like the EGR valve is sticky, take a small screw driver and tap the valve when the engine is at idle and you will notice a change in the way the engine runs, if the vehicle smooths out disconnect the valve and drive the vehicle and it should not cut off please let me know and dont forget to rate me!!
