Question about 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

My 05 trailblazer I6 4.3 stumbles at idle, run a check up and I got codes for cam/crankshaft position sensor B, I heard of this problem before, replacing the sensor makea sense, the thing is that I also heard of this solution not working, my question is: what about the Throtle sensor? Could that be my solution?

Actually it is on, but it was already on due to a small leak in the evap system

TELL ME WHAT EVAP CODE YOUR CODE SCANNER GAVE YOU.

  • Franckiej10 Apr 26, 2011

All it says is small leak in evap system, but that has been there since the previous owner, anyway, I just replaced the cam sensor and it runs the same, I'll give it another scan and see if any codes come back up.

  • Jonah Oneal Apr 26, 2011

evap leak could be gas cap loose cross thread damage or wrong part.fuel tank filler neck or fuel sending unit o ring is leaking.fuel tank pressure sensor is damaged or disconnected.fuel tank vapor lines or purge valve vapor line is clogged damaged or disconnected.purge solenoid or vent solenoid has a small leak.charcoal canister fuel soaked or pcm failure. evap small leak would be code po442. code scan and tell me what code you get.

  • Franckiej10 Apr 27, 2011

Since I cleared all codes, I haven't got it to show up again, the cam/crank code is still there ( poo17 ) sensor B bank. So far that's all I got as far as codes,

  • Franckiej10 Apr 27, 2011

Sorry full code reads as follows, cam/crankshaft sensor B bank 1.

  • Jonah Oneal Apr 27, 2011

let me get back to you got to report to work.

  • Jonah Oneal Apr 28, 2011

code p0017 crankshaft position camshaft position bank 1 sensor b correlation. could be the crankshaft sensor.code poo17 is crankshaft sensor code.

  • Franckiej10 Apr 28, 2011

I thought so too, I had a couple friends, mecanics both, and they didn't find it faulty, I still agree with you and since the sensor is only $20 bucks I decided to just replace it and hope for the best, what do you think of a cracked head gasket or even the head itself ?? I have open up more options, trying to see the bigger picture.

  • Jonah Oneal Apr 30, 2011

A CRACK HEAD GASKET WILL CAUSE CAR TO OVERHEAT AND LOSE POWER AND COMPRESSION.YOUR OIL CRANKCASE WOULD HAVE ANTIFREEZE IN IT MAKING OIL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.

Eng starts hard, runs good until the rpm is over 2200 then it stumbles my input voltage on the cam sensor is 5volts ,on most cars i've read should have 8volts where

Both crank and cam sensors have a 8 volt reference I have found the wiring melted together where it cross over transmission shorting out the signal. also test your reference voltage at the computer with circuit unplugged at sensor watch meter and wiggle wiring going back to computer this will help find faulty area.

04 buick ranier rough idle almost stalls

DTC P0016 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)
The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) and Camshaft position sensor (CMP) work in harmony to control the spark/fuel delivery and timing. They both consist of a reluctor, or tone, ring which passes over a magnetic sensor, which generates a voltage, indicating position.

The crankshaft sensor is part of the primary ignition system and functions as the "trigger". It detects the position of the crankshaft relays that information on to the PCM or the ignition module (depending on the vehicle) to control spark timing. The Camshaft position sensor detects the position of the camshafts and relays the information to the PCM. The PCM uses the CMP signal to identify the beginning of the injector sequence. What ties these two shafts and their sensors together is the timing belt or chain. The cam and crank should be precisely timed together. If the PCM detects that the Crank and Cam signals are out of time by a specific number of degrees, this P0016 code will set.

Symptoms of a P0016 will or may include:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
The engine may run but with reduced performance
The engine may crank but not start
The engine may exhibit a rattle near the harmonic balancer indicating the tone ring is damaged
The engine may start and run, but poorly

Causes may include:
Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
Misalignment of timing belt/chain
Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
Bad crank sensor
Bad cam sensor
Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I have a 2002mercury sable, idles rough but runs good when acceleration. I changed fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, coil, still idles rough.Autozone had three codes, P0316, P1151, P1131. What should I do...

P0316 crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, or a wiring issue. Since this code indicates a start up misfire, pay attention to items which may expand or contract when cold (if the code sets when the engine is cold), or hot (if the code sets on a hot restart).

If you have other misfire codes that pertain to individual cylinders, you should attend to them first P1151 has a huge list of things that it can be, But included in that list is the camshaft position sensor , po1131 is the same thing, all building up to your car is running lean , so I'd do the sensor (cam) and check timing,,

Where is the cam sensor on a 2005 dodge neon sxt 2.0

Camshaft Position Sensor-On top of engine Operation The Engine Management System (EMS) uses the camshaft position sensor to manage sequential fuel injection and as part of misfire diagnosis. The EMS constantly monitors the number of pulses on the signal circuit. The EMS compares the number of camshaft sensor reference pulses and the number of crankshaft position sensor reference pulses received. If the EMS receives an incorrect number of pulses, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) should be stored in the EMS. Some engine management systems will then default to multi-port or "gang-fire" injector operation. The camshaft position sensor signal is required to sequence the injector operation to the proper cylinder timing. If the camshaft position sensor or circuit is faulty, most engines will start. However, the EMS misfire diagnostic will likely be affected.
The following symptoms can be caused by an intermittent wiring connections or faulty signal to the EMS.
Related Symptoms
  • Extended crank time with a cold engine
  • Intermittent rough running
  • Unstable idle
  • Bucking
  • Hesitation
  • Stumble
  • Chuggle
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Stalling on acceleration

Trouble codes p0340 and p0014 for a chevy trailblazer engine keeps either idling up real fast or trys to die

You need to check the cam phazer and see if it's damaged. Lots of the time it leaks oil into the connector and messes up the wires. Also I've seen the oil control screens come out of the phazer and go into the engine, which will also set the coeds. If I were you I'd pull the phazer out and see if all 3 of the oil control screens are there. My bet is one will be missing. Make sure to change the oil too. You may get lucky and it will have made it to the oil pan? Other wise I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most of the time it will not cause any engine problems. Good luck, oh and you do have to pull the power steering pump off to get the phazer out. But you can just take the bolts out for the pump and let it fall down so you can get the phazer out!
