Question about 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190

1 Answer

I am having trouble starting my car. It was sitting for a while at a friends house. I could not get it started so I had it towed to my house. now I have it where I can work on it without it getting in somebodys way. It is a 190e 1985 mercedesbenz. It will start if I put fuel directly into the intake but it will only run for a few seconds.

Hi,
Check the fuel filter and the fuel distributor!
The main problem would be the fuel distributor and only the dealer could properly check it if its malfunctioning!
That model, comes w/ her tender age the mechanical probs would show up!

Turning fast generally points to a failed timing chain. Check engine compression and that distributor turns without stuttering while it's cranking.
If that checks out, and there is no spark, check the ignition module and wiring on the pickup coil under the plate in the distributor. There is no valid test on module...If everything appears normal, just replace it.

Sounds like you have a bad glow plug relay that could cause a power spike and drain your battery,it could also take away power to the fuel pump causing the loss of power.Hope this helps you out some!!
