Overheating gage when stop & go -2004 chevy tahoe

natural for engine temp to rise in Traffic - Until Themostat opens ) cooling fan sensor kicks on fan . But Antifreeze is not just a Cold weather item . Coolant is Absolutely Necessary for Hot Days . You must be full to recovery bottle setting of cold when checked prior to start up . Coolant for your make / model is Reddish - Pink colour and should have a reading of -25 thats negative 25 degrees the Lower the Better even - 50 .. Why ?? - 50 is 50 %% antifreeze / Coolant Concentrate MIX Gives Hot weather cooling Ability or very cold weather starting / winter HEAT .

My temperature gage not working on a 08 impala

You will need a high end scat tool to see what the temp sensor is reading and whether or not the logic module in the instrument cluster is getting the correct signal.

Temp gage on my 1998 explorer does not work. any ideas?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

It can be a faulty temp sensor that's why it doesn't work. There are two locations to look at, it can be on the lower part of the radiator or it can be on the engine block. You will need to remove the connector then twist the temp sensor counter clockwise then replace. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

TEMPEATURE GAGE READS HOT WHEN AT AN IDOL BUT MOTOR

If cooling fan works, it maybe a sticking thermostat not opening fully. Check that cooling system is full (check cold) first. Then if that seems ok, i would replace the thermostat.

The temp gage and the oil presser gage dont work on my 1990 wrang

Normally it's on the thermostat housing at the front of the engine.(I have also seen some models with a second sensor on the l/r of the cylinder head) but the therm housing is best bet!!!
