The one on the engine is probably a viscous type fan.It spins freely until the heat causes it to 'stiffen' up and assist in drawing heat off the radiator.Prior to this it is not needed and would only rob engine power and slightly affect fuel economy.Easy way to check if it is viscous, with engine off, just spin the blades. It should spin with a little resistance onlyThe electric fan on the radiator is switched on by a temp sensor or by using the air cond(unless it has another for this task).Hope this helps you.

My 97, 5.2 runs 200 without AC, if I turn on AC, it goes to 220. Replaced clutch fan, thermostat, water pump, and new cap. Backflushed block and radiator. No results. Why so hot? Only 92K on unit.

dodges run like that. if your worried put a 180 degree thermostat in. maybe even a 160 . wont hurt engine or fuel mileage . my 99 dodge ram 1500 sport runs fine with 160 degree one. hope it helped , good luck

How do I remove the fan from the water pump on 1998 dodge ram 1500 3.9 engine

Have you bought the new pump yet? If so notice the direction of the treads. The fan/clutch is threaded on. The parts store has the wrenches to remove it. Or if you have air tools,,,,,, get the air chisel,(this becomes your wrench) put it on the nut, just a bit from the edge, as you don't want to round it off. And hit it a couple times.. Should then spin right off. Then when you put it back together. just use what you have. The engine, when running keeps it from backing off.

your plow is blocking the air flow to the raditor thus the temp change. if it is running to high for you. install a 160 degree thermo stat. still warm enough but will lower the temp. it may be able to stablize the temp also at speed.

Switch to Electric Fan?

You should see a noticeable change in your fuel mileage by making the change but you have to run the fans through a relay system, you can't just run a 12 volt wire.
