Will try to assist you.are you parked on a hill? or parked somewhere as to out the transmission in a "bind"? try turning your key switch to the on position and at the same time you're attempting to turn the key to on,wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, like you're turning to left or right. sometimes the steering lock binds when the cars parked on a hill,or parked against a curb.try to turn the steering wheel to the left, while turning the key to "on" some times rocking the car back and forth will free up the locked steering column.while turning the key to the "start" position of course. try this and if this does'nt help you" please repost your question to fixya.com. thank you for seeking out fixya.com we look forward to assisting you in your future automotive,or household questions with appliances,or just about anything.there are experts ready to assist you 24/7

How do you remove ignition lock cylinder on a 1973 dodge charger

These older vehicles had a tumbler release pin which needs to be pushed in while key tumbler assy is turned counterclockwise. Look for a small hole in the column, usualy located undernieth where the lock assy is. Insert something small such as a paper clip into the homle after turning the tumbler to the acsesorry position( backwards). push in the paper clip and rotate the lock assy backwards at the same time to release the tumber from the lock assy. and pull the tumbler out.

1995 C220: Cannot get ignition to turn to on to start car. Steering wheel lock is not the problem. Key just will not turn. Any suggested solutions?

check the key itself if the blade is worn out then it won't push back all the tumbler keys not allowing the tumbler to turn. try a newer key and replace the ignition tumbler asap..

The ignition is stuck on the ON position on my '91 firebird. The key will not turn forward or backward but the key is able to be pulled out. Need help please!

Does it have air bags? If not remove horn cover, you need replace the key tumbler, with key in ignition you should see a small tab ( metal) button that you need to push in and at the same time kinda turn the key just slightly and pull out. have new ingnition tumbler with you and install is basically the reverse.

Cant get key switch out of housing, on a 1974 chevy pick up.Trere are no screws or clips visible.

If you mean remove the ignition tumbler from the steering column, you will have to remove the steering wheel and lock plate, then you will need to remove the turn signal lever and screws, and then pull the turn signal switch up and out of the way, you should then be able to see the housing for the ignition tumbler down in the steering column. Look at the tumbler housing and there should be a small slot towards the end of the housing that you can put a small standard screwdriver into and depress a locking latch that is built into the tumbler. When this latch is depressed you will be able to pull the ignition tumbler straight out of the column.

Ford f150 the windows, radio & wipers don't work when the motor is runing then i turn it off & place the key in the back position of the switch they work

Might want to remove the tumbler, and check it for obstructions, or dirt in the grease.

One quick test for this would be :

Start the truck as normal. Check the radio, if it is off, slightly turn the key backwards towards the off position, only moving the key 1 or 2 mm. It could be the key is not returning from the start position correctly.

To check the tumbler :
Look on the bottom of the steering wheel cover. There should be 4 holes, but only 3 screws. The empty hole should be by the ignition switch.

1 Insert the ignition key and turn to the RUN position.

2 Insert a punch in the access hole of the steering column and press the release tab while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.

Once you have it out, you should be able to look inside the tumbler path, to see if there are any obstructions, or grease & dirt build up.
This is also the same way to remove the key in ignition warning chime. It should be a tab on the end of the tumbler ( mine was broken, left in the tumbler path )
Pry the clip down, and push the tab off the rear of the ignition switch lock.

Putting it back is a case of pushing the same punch in the hole, insert the switch lock cylinder back in, release the punch, and cycle the key to the off position.

Ignition tumbler locked up. Key still works well in doors. Steering wheel is not locking, but key wont turn

try a spare key, or push key into lock while turning
it is the tip [pointy end] of the key that releases the switch tumbler lock allowing it to turn. keys & switches wear out, a 'heavy' key ring especially wears the switch.

Somebody got inside my 1977 Sedan de Ville and did something to the ignition that now prevents me from turning the key in the ignition plus unable to move the gearshift from "Park" -- therefore difficult...

When you insert the key, don't push it in all the way. Then try turning it. If it will turn backwards to accessory position, use a straightened paper clip to insert into the small hole on yhe face of the keyhole. While depressing the paperclip, rotate the key and using the key as a handle pull the tumblers out. then check the brass bars on the tumbler to make sure they are all retracted so the tumbler is smooth all the way around it. Pull the key out of the cylinder and you will see what I mean. The brass bars will come out.If all the brass bars are not flush the tumbler won't turn. Will go to next step , at this point try this first. good luck.

Place key in ign. lock n tumbler and turn to "on" position. Under the column you'll see a small hole to put a small screwdriver or rod into and press it in. While you're pressing it, pull the lock n tumbler out. Installation is the reverse of removal but without the use of the rod. Just push the lock n tumbler in the hole and turn key to lock position and pull key out.
