Pumping the gas pedal on a fuel injected vehiclehas no effect on the starting. The first thing I would check is the fuel pressure. It should be between 55 and 62 PSI.

Sounds like your butterfly valve could be sticking you can get throttle body cleaner at pepboys auto zone and take off the tube that goes from the throttle body to the air filter and use a rag and clean the butterfly valve and the black ring around if you move it by hand it should not get stuck it should be free. there is a throttle position sensor on the other side and if it dosent move freely it will not allow the engine to function right let me know if this helps

Based upon your description of symptoms, I am inclined to think the fuel pump may be at fault.

Any chance the check engine light is on ?
My first thoughts are fuel pump, ignition module or coil. It may be tough to find if you can't duplicate the problem in a repair shop. Someone may have to take tools and equipment on the drive and troubleshoot it when it happens.
When it happens, will it sit and idle or does it shut down ?

1988 22r pickup have to pump the gas now before starting 15 to 20 times. i didnt use to have to pump the gas before every start if it sits more than 10 hours it wont start unless i start pumping the gas...

Seems like the choke is not turning on. The 22r uses a carb if I'm not mistaken. pump it a couple of times then try pressing the pedal completely down before trying to start it. Then press the pedal half way down. the point is to set the choke when you press the pedal all the way down.

My 94 honda accord cut out while driving and will not start. It turns over fine but will not fire up. it's as though there is no gas

there are two posible culprits, one, is your distributer, and one is your gas pump. lets hope its your distributor because a gas pump costs like 500 dollars to change. well to know if its your distributor, it will take a couple of hours to cool down, and once it does cool down, it will start back up, and cut off while driving. thats the simplest way to check your distributor. if its your gas pump, the only way to check your gas pump is to check the gas pressure. and most of the time, it might mean gas spraying everywhere. so if i where you, i would wait a couple of hours, and try to start it. if it starts, change the distributor. it costs like 180 at autozone. if you need more assistance, just reply. good luck

My 2001 sunfire ran out of gas now it wont start

Smack the bottom of the gas tank a couple of times while someone tries to start it. If it starts then your pump is old and tired. Time for a new one.

Won't turnover when cranking to start.

If it's electric just take the line off intake and put it in a cup or something to catch the gas. Turn on key for a moment and see if any gas comes out. You can usually hear pump in take run. If it's mechanical pump, take it off intake into a cup and crank the motor over a couple times. Do all this with engine cold. If no gas, change pump. Some times changing gas cap helps.
