Question about 1994 Mazda 2WD B Series Pickup

1 Answer

When I put the pedal to the metal on my '84 Mazda B2000, the pedal will often stick all the way down. Cruise control, maybe, but only if you want to go 85mph. I've gotten used to it, but my son will be driving it, and I want to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

i have had the same problem with my 84 mazda b2000. This sounds crazy but i had two things causing this problem. First was a rubber bushing on the throttle link. And the other was the secondary on the nikki carb. It opens with the vacuum pull after first barrel is halfway open. The problem is it sticks open cause the vacuum pull is to much for the first barrel to close it. The only thing u can do is what i did and modify the secondary to open mechanically. Not easy though u got to be a little bit of a genius. the only other option is to by a webber for it. $300 on ebay. hope this helps u

Maybe chech the throttle linkage for a spring missing and give it a good shot of wd 40.also try cleaning carb

also check to make sure the throttle cable is fairly new,if not replace, and check to see if throttle pedal is sticking on something

Gas pedal wont go down once in gear

I would check a few things. first the engine mounts. make sure the engine isn't rocking over. second cruise control ? if it has cruise control I would unhook the cable to the throttle from the cruise control and see if that was the issue. some times the control box will pull in deceleration mode and stick there. also the decelerator valve on the throttle body may be defective.

Irecently had my transmission fixed by AAMCO. Ever since the repair my cruise control works intermittantly. 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Some cruise controls are vacuum controlled check the vacuum lines make sure they are hooked up and are not leaking air or sucking in outside air. Another cause could be the cruise control switch around the brake pedal. There should be two there is one for the brake lights and the other is for disengaging the cruise control try bending the bracket downward a bit and maybe spraying some WD40 on switch in case it might be sticking due to wear so the switch operates freely. Happy motoring!!!

My 87 Mazda B2000 has been parked down hill for 3 months. Now the motor starts but I cannot put it in any gear with the motor on. The stick shift will move into gears with the engine off.

sounds like the clutch has corroded somewhat.
does it feel like the clutch has some pressure?
try putting it in gear, depress the clutch, and then see if it will start in gear( be carefull it may jump forward)
this might free the clutch.
also the clutch fluid may have drained or have an air bubble, depressing the clutch many times quickly may self bleed the air out, or bleed some new fluid through it. make sure to top up the fluid.

Where does the vacuum advance go on a 84 mazda b2000

It goes between the distributor and the base of the carburetor , while your at it give the pipe from the distributor a good **** and make sure the the plate that the points are on moves , ive had to replace a few of those distributors because the diaphragm has gone inside the advance unit .

I have a 2006 Scion Xa that tried to kill me today. SERIOUSLY. I had cruise control on and was doing 70. Turned cruise control off as I entered a mid size town and WTF the car wouldn't idle below 60mph. I...

Next time that happens, like the tech said tap the gas peddle, but if your coming to traffic or a town or a stop, slow down as much as you can, throw it in neutral (as if you put it into park while still moving with speed, that could screw your transmission. Anyway, put it into neutral, turn it off, tap the gas peddle like the tech said, and then restart the car. (To be on the safe side, rather then having the car rev growing.
Yes like you said their is a TSB for this and my buddie has experienced the same problem, coincidentally while I was driving with him. What happens is when you tap the break or cruise control, the mechanism that controls the throttle cable fails to let go, so thus when you tap the peddle it kinda nudges it back.
You could say the mechanism that takes control of the throttle, sticks yes.

You do know that the manufacturer will replace this for you free - no charge? So you will have no more problems anymore. Owners can contact Rostra at 910-291-2538.
