Question about 2005 Honda Odyssey

Honda Odyssey 1997 Engine = F23A. Starts well in the mornings, but will not start immediately when warm. Smoking when starting. Goes well . Does not cut off when revved. Recently serviced, had been cutting engine prior to service. Also tend to overheat. Checked oil recently and was very black despite recent service with oil filter change and was too low. Is it fuel transmission / thermostat or something else?

It sounds like either a defective fuel pressure regulator or leaking fuel injector O-rings-they leak fuel when the engine is shut down and it will fill cylinders with raw fuel when sitting-this causes hard starting and the extra fuel also drains down into the crankcase, washing down the cylinder walls - this tends to carry unburned fuel (coke/soot) into the oil, making it black. Get your fuel pressure checked, and if it is alright, ask to have the O-rings replaced for the fuel injectors.

Why 01 honda odyssey wont run when warm until cools down sometimes dies when driving it cools down n starts


the coolant temperature sensor is faulty
when cold the sensor tells the computer its cold adding more fuel into the engine, when warm the engine needs less fuel so the temperature sensor tells the computer its warmed up and to use less fuel. when this snesor goes bad it always reads as if the engine was cold so the computer adds more fuel than needed making the engine not start. Trust me on this ive had this problem happen to me before

When I start my odyssey it starts surging. I found a small rubber hose on the right side of the engine, but don't know where the other end of the hose goes....Help

the fsm covers this. hose thing.... all hose can be followed,
unless its axle vents on 4wd cars. (they go no where, special)
is surging the only symtom.?

2: or engine is running way too lean, and ISC cant keep a grip on idle.

is the CEL lamp glowing , then goes out running engine.
no , the scan it. or do the flash DTC codes trick.

a good tech ,first finds out if the engine holds closed loop status
hot. at idle, if not, he fixes that first.
as he/she knows that idle is the last thing to work right, in EFI.

one other way to get surge is air leaks (aka. vacuum leaks)
if the engine (unsaid option) is MAP based, it will race fast
with any vacuum leak, and it dont take much of a leak
to make the ISC idle controller go nuts.

so repost , hot/cold both questions
and actual RPM numbers. we need numbers
is the dash Tachometer missing. ????
and what engines in car.

all lean engines surge.
all ISC systems can surge if out of control , not all do this. just 1/2
if the ISC surges, it means its trying hard to gain back control.
this is called a software servo loop.
The ECU is programmed to hold rpm near say 800 RPM hot.
and is very digressive in that role.
I have a 91 car that will surge, with any vacuum leaks.
(by design) depends on which engine.

My '06 Honda Odyssey has gotten noisy recently.


If it is filled up to the "full hot" mark then you are okay, fluid wise. It almost sounds like once it gets warmed up, it starts running better. The "growling" noise (especially when turning) could be from it not getting enough fluid. Other than that, your power steering pump maybe on its last legs, and it is taking time to warm up before it starts pumping fluid correctly. Just make sure that you power steering resevoir is completely filled to the proper mark.

It sounds like your automatic choke is not working You need to hold the ecalerator down just a little bit until the motor warms up. Cheers

I have a 97 Honda Accord that stalls in warm/hot weather after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 6-8 hours in the afternoon; never in the morning and never in the evening. It usually starts right up...


there's a main relay or fuel pump relay located under the dash on driver's side. this relay goes bad all the times. it usually goes bad when you leave the car in a hot sun, next time keep your window down to see if it will start.

Changing 1997 honda odyssey oil filter, any need to run engine first?


I have heard that a warm engine drains the oil better, and the contaminents are suspended in the oil, and not settled.
Hot oil is harder to deal with, but I understand that's it's a better method.

Can you replace the rod bearings from underneath the vehicle without taking out the engine, Honda ( F23a--2.3L) Have removed the oil pan already but don't want to remove the girdle as once I do I will...


It's possible, but if you have bad rod bearings, you probably have to get the crank re-done. In other words, if it's knocking, your problem is bearings and crank, not just bearings.

hello, honda has a problem with the key switch shorting out. mostly becuase there is to much weight on the key ring. the electrical part of the switch looses contact in run mode. replace the ingtion switch electrical part. this should solve the problem
