Check the weather trim along the trunk opening to make sure it is in good shape and properly fasten to the trunk.then check the trunk floor for a rotted out section(remove the trunk carpet)check the wheel well were the body of the car contacts the wheel well seam for areas that are not sealed.you may have to use a strong light to check areas to find any open area by shining the light from the outside in.there is also a plug that is in the floor of the trunk that is used to drain any liquid out by removing it,check and make sure it is in properly.if you find an area, you can seal it with either stone guard or roofing tar that gets hard when cured.

Is it possible the trunk lid is not aligned right and not applying pressure to the gasket ? Or do you have a crack in the seam where the quarter panel and the center pillar meet up ? Or is it getting in behind the tail lamp ?

My 2000 honda civic has a leak in either the tail light or trunk leaking into the passenger compartment on the drivers side

I am assuming the water comes in when it rains.
Could be the trunk gasket or the tail light.
You may need a body shop to find the leak.

I have a 2001 buick century limited. The trunk wheel well and back seat floor boards are full of water. we checked the trunk seal. still looks brand new.

easiest way for now is drill a hole in the boot well so water will drain out ,their should be a rubber bung but not on all cars ,where the water is getting in is only something you can find by getting in the boot and having someone run a garden hose all over the car ,but a 3/8th hole or two will be a good cure till the weather warms up so you can play with the hose without becoming wet and cold

Rain water is getting in, through my trunk I believe, and soaking my back seat.

its along way from the trunk to the back seat. check the back window, and the doors, get a water hose and have someone inside check it for a leak. Water in the trunk is usually caused by bad seals at the tail lights. But water in the trunk usually stays in the trunk and spare tire area. If the car has been wrecked, then who knows.

If your concerned that there may be another place of water entry. Find a shop that has a tool known as the "SMOKER" this is a device that produces white smoke with mineral oil or scentless baby oil. I suggest to fill the trunk up with smoke and see where the smoke escapes to.

After it rains water is in trunk Nissan Altima

When diagnosing a water leak, here's a handy tip. Check the accumulated water. If the water is dirty, look for leaks from the underside of the vehicle (floor, wheelwells, etc). If the accumulated water is clean, look for leaks from the topside of the vehicle (trunk seal, window seal, etc). To find where the water is coming from, shut yourself in the trunk with a flashlight and have an assistant run water over the trunk with a garden hose. You may have to remove some of the interior trunk trim to see exactly were the water is coming from, but chances are you'll find it. Also another common cause of water leaks are from impact damage, so check for collision damage repair. while your in there. -hope this helps.

I have a 2005 Dodge neon that seems to retain water in trunk area where spare tire is located. why is this?

I can tell you why....because it does this in my stratus!!!!

The trunk lid hinges are letting water into your trunk. All the water pools up in and under the spare, the trunk carpet is wet.....more than likely the driver's side of the trunk....pull that trunk carpet back from where that trunk hinge is mounted to the body, reach under there and feel all the water dripping in!

The fix? Unbolt those hinges and put silicone sealant around those bolts and mounts.....that'll take care of that crummy leak.....DODGES!!!!!

Pontiac grand am leaks water into front floorboard when it rains

I had the same problem on my 97 G AM for about a year now, Water getting on the driver side carpet all the way to the back,it just got worst over time, But I found the problem, you have to look behind the wiper motor where the fire wall meets the bodi ,there is a hire line crack rigth behind the wiper motor where the water coming from the wiper cowling drains from ther is some kind of coulking that is painted the same color as the car, you must clean the area with a screwdriver and soap, and use clear silicon with a coulking gun, you must remove the 2 top wiper motor screws do not remove the botom one not need to and remove the 2 wire plugs and pull the motor back and rotaded upwards know youre clear to do the job; good luck it worked for me.
