Replace plug wires and Im not sure where #1 is on the cap it dosnt say. 71 chevey 350 with 3/4 cam. Wont start and has back fired once
To find the #1 position on the cap, turn the engine by hand 'till the timing mark on the crank balancer is aligned with "0" on the timing scale. The rotor in the distributor will now either be pointing 180 degrees away from #1, in which case it is pointing towards the firewall. Or, it is pointing at #1. (pretty much towards the front of the engine) If it points towards the firewall, turn the engine one more time again to "0". Order is 18436572 clockwise on cap. Engine cylinders are 1357 drivers side. 2468 passenger side . If the engine ran before you changed the wires it should run now. The cam has nothing to do with the firing order but if valves are improperly adjusted it may give you problems. In reality there is no such thing as a 3/4 cam. All cams have a set of specifications (called a cam card) In saying you have a 3/4 cam, that would be 3/4 of what???
Any further problems just ask!!
