Sounds like a fuel pump problem. What is the pressure?

The way you describe this problem the cause seems to be in the fuel system losing pressure. But even then, if you crank long enough it should start. Check your fuel pressure. It may be useful to check your fuel filter.

Sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or possibly the MAF sensor.

92 Camero SOMETIMES wont start, backfires or starts rough - but will run fine after it DOES start

I would want to know if it is ignition or fuel for sure. There are a few things you can try to narrow down the possible cause.
What does the cap and rotor look like, and is the spark a strong blue when it is running rough ?
Have you checked the actual fuel pressure with a gauge ? Does it matter if you spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into the throttle body ?
Any trouble codes stored in the computer ?
Its possible the coolant temp sensor is wrong and the computer thinks the air temp is 90 degrees instead of say 20 degrees. Or there is moisture in the dist cap or on the plug wires, and so on.

99 buick start easy then dies unless you give it gas. then stays running until you go to start again.

Check the fuel pressure regulator. It is on the drivers side, front of the engine near the throttle body. Remove the vacuum hose and see if fuel comes out of the nipple. If it does than the regulator needs to be replaced.

If the regulator is fine than you will need to check fuel pressure with a gauge. If fuel pressure drops as soon as you shut off the car than the fuel pump is likely bad.

92 s10 want start unless you put gas in the efi bowl ! i replaced fuel filter and pump. but runs fine after it starts . how do i fix this ? it is a 2.8

there is a fuel pressure regulator built into the throttle body on the engine. the fuel tends to bleed off pressure before the truck starts if the regulator is bad. parts stores offer a kit to repair the regulator.
