Your battery tried to get back to 12+ volts the night the lights were left on, and that is very hard and often fatal to a conventional battery-the fact that you got it started with a jump and it started later (even though it took longer to start) is a good thing-but your alternator will not properly 'charge' your battery, it should be put on a slow charger ( amp) to properly bring it up to what it is capable of-a deep cycle battery can be fully discharged hundreds of times without major damage, but a conventional battery can only go through this a few times. Charge it up, then if you still have problems up, get the battery load tested (this sees how fast it can recover from a measured load, good for determining how good the battery is). Remember too, kyour alternator is sensitive to how hard it has to work to get the battery up to level-so a deficient battery could cause more expensive problems unless you take care now.

charge it properly, get it tested.

Check the voltage at the battery with the car running. If it's less than 14 volts, it's time for a new alternator. If you don't have a voltmeter, take the alternator off and have it tested at your local parts chain. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

A jump start is okay for temporary but your alternator can't recharge a battery, so when u get a chance remove terminals and hook battery to a 2amp overnight charge. done!

Sorry to say this , but its the ECM computer. Altenator runs threw this and it is dieing or dead. You can get one at a junk yard . you will have to pull yours first. there are numbers on them that have to be matched up. junk yard should be able to help you on this. It will still need flashed/reprogrammed. Some auto stores can do this at a fraction of the cost of the dealer. call around.

98 oldmobile regency won't start up and check

Well the fact that the traction light came on and blinked off when taking off is a good thing, it just means that your traction control is working properly. When that light comes on it means that one wheel was spinning and that the car adjusted the speed of the drive wheels to compensate. The car not starting needs to be addressed as to whether the car is turning over slowly, clicking, or making no noise at all. The check engine light will remain on until the vehicle is started, so that does not correlate to your problem. If it clicks, or turns over sluggishly, then it just needs a jump start and a test of the battery. If the lights come on, but the car does not turn over al all, then you may need to look at replacing a starter.

THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON TO ALERT YOU TO THE FACT THAT THE BATTERY IS NOT BEING CHARGED BY THE ALTERNATOR, IT DOESN'T MEAN THE BATTERY HAS A PROBLEM, HAVE THE ALTERNATOR TESTED FOR PROPER OPERATION.

The light could be coming on for a totally unrelated reason like an oxygen sensor. Most major part stores now scan codes for free (or they will let you use their scanner in on site). Scan the code and post it here for additional help.

The body control module fails on these. Weird things happen such as what you describe, as well as "mystery" wipers, inoperative door locks, etc. Have it scanned for codes.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville won't start

have you not left any load on overnight?..like park light or left the door partially open and the dome light would be left on?

have the battery recharge and the next night, make sure that no light would be left on the car.

if it would drain out again, have it recharged again, use it and on the night, make sure no light is left on the car, then remove the positive pole on the battery overnight.

the next morning, put the positive cable back and start the car.

if the car would start, then no problem with the battery, if the car would not start, then return the battery because it is defective.

tnx 4 using fixya,

P1684 dtc code on 2001 dodge grand caravan sport.

Yah code 1684, it just tells you that battery/computer has been disconnected within last 50 starts. If it doesn't drive you nuts, give it some time, you'll be suprised how quick 50 starts will go by & light should go out
