Question about 2003 Honda CR-V

1 Answer

Check engine light comes on sporadically and stays on for half a day. they turns off just as mysteriously and may not come on for two weeks or two days. when it comes on, my car wants to cut out. Especially when I am trying to excellerate from a stopped position. I don't put my foot into the excellerator, I am easy with it and still it tries to cut out. Gas mileage is not good either.

Already took it to Acura and they said it was the software. So they downloaded software and said it was fixed. But it wasn't. Just wanted to see if anyone else had the same symtoms as my car and what did it turn out to be. Hate to keep taking it back and spending more money when the professionals don't even know what it is. It's like hit a miss, spend more, hit a miss.

The first thing to do is to check the ECM for codes. That could give you a clue as to what the problem is. Most part stores (Autozone, etc.) will scan it no charge.

I had the serpentine belt replaced on my 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager about two months ago. Everything was going fine with it, no problems or anything, until like a week and a half to two weeks ago, when I...

Check the alternator pulley for a wobble when the engine is running. WIth the belt off pull up and
down on the pulley, check for up and down movement. If the belt popped off, you have some movement on one of the pulleys, a bad belt tensioner, or just the wrong belt. So check the belt tensioner as well. And find the part number on the new belt and check online to see if its the correct belt. But Im fairly certain its the alternator.

I think you have a bad bearing on your alternator. The bearing can become loose and reseat itself for a while, then loose again. Could explain the battery light randomly coming on.

Have the alternator bench tested at the auto parts store as well.

The light came on and stayed on while I was driving. When I turned engine off and then back on half hour later it wasn't there. Is this dangerous? Is it something to worry about?

Not to worry. Chances are it was a temporary problem like fuel air mixture after a fast acceleration. Worry when the light stays on but check that it works when you first turn the ignition switch on. If the check engine light does not come on, replace the bulb

common problem with the 4.2L is o2 sensors, depending on the code. you need a obd11 scan tool and it will tell you which bank is faulty. your vehicle has 3 o2 sensors.

Tail lghts/brake lights

Isn't that mysterious? It took me a few weeks to figure it out. Look carefully under the break pedal. There is this device called a "break light switch". I hope that helps.

Check Engine Light

Nita0605 you should have included a little more infomation. Does the car drive any different when the light is on? Most likely you have a trouble code P0325.........Knock sensor fault or O2 sensor problem. I wouldn't worry about it until the light stays on

Enhanced Traction System Warning Light (TRAC OFF)

Sometimes it's a complaint with the ABS braking system. If it comes on and you have no other problems and stays on for while, check your brakes. I have had this issue before and had my brakes replaced. They were worn but for some reason were not squeaking.
