87 covette. open door---horn,alarm goes off. has happened twice in last 5 years. unlock opposite door with key and alarm/horn is silenced. additionally, in SEVERE heat ,92 to 104 degrees, horn can blow spontaneously without provocation like the alarm has been activated. horn continues to blow until horn is disconnected, then reconnected when temperature falls below 80 degrees. Any thoughts?

SOURCE: HOW TO DISARM FACTORY ALARM SYSTEM

I had a similar problem with my '94. Try disconnecting the battery, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the battery. This should reset the alarm.

SOURCE: Alarm won't beep when doors are locked with key fob

Many remotes use a button-press sequence to arm or disarm the audible or visual alarm arming indication. Your owner's guide should contain the sequence needed if the remote is capable of change. I have set my Subaru's signal to flash the lights only; the horn-honking seems superfluous and is kind of annoying.
If your alarm is arming at all, the system fuse in the car is probably not blown. You can check the alarm pretty easy by thumping on the car or rocking it hard a few seconds after arming the system with the remote. Either the sound sensor or the motion detecting feature should respond to one of those disturbances.

The alarm randomly comes on for no reason, would this be related to the BCM? If not what could it be?

Some of the sensors are going bad or are too sensitive. A motion sensor or lock sensor can be intermittently setting it off. Do you have access to a scan tool ?

How to set & cancel theft deterrent system or how to set & cancel security...

Theft deterrent system (on some models)

Theft deterrent system is designed to deter vehicle theft. The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn when it detects abnormalities such as follows:

• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The batter terminal is disconnected and then reconnected
• The system control is disconnected and then reconnected.
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn if someone attempts to damage or break into your car.

Setting the system

You can set the system with or without the impact sensor function. For details, see "Canceling the impact sensor" below.

1. Turn the ignition key to "LOCK" and remove it.
2. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle
3. Push the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once. At this time, the turn signal lights flashes once and the security indicator light comes on.

The system is set after 30 seconds. At this time, the security indicator light start flashing slowly.

Once the system is set, you cannot start the engine until you cancel the system.

The system will not be set in the following cases.

• When any of the door is open; security horn sounds for 1 second, close the door and set the system again.
• When the hood is open; close the hood securely.

Canceling the Impact Sensor

The impact sensor can be cancelled to prevent false alarms from being triggered incase of the following conditions:

• When parked in the noisy area
• The vehicle body or glass is subjected to a strong impact from the (such as in highly pressurized car wash).
• When transporting by a car carrier or ferry.

To cancel the impact sensor;

1. Lock the door by pushing the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once, and turn signal light flash once
2. Then push the lock (set) switch twice within 5 seconds. At this time, the turn signal flash 5 times to indicate the impact sensor function is disable.

The impact sensor is deactivated as long as the system remained armed.

Canceling the system

The system will be cancelled by the following two ways:

• Turn the ignition key from "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch

If the turn signal lights flash 3 times, the system has been alarmed. Check to see if there is any abnormality with your vehicle.

If any of the doors is not opened within 30 seconds, all doors will be automatically locked and the system will be set.

When the system is set

Activating the system; When the system detects abnormalities such as follows, it flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the turn lights only (depending on the model) and sounds the security horn and vehicle horn of 30 seconds.

• Unlocking any door without using wireless control
• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected.
• The system control assembly is disconnected and then reconnected
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

Reactivating the alarm;

Once set, the system automatically resets the alarm after the alarm stops.

The alarm will activate again under the same circumstances described in "Activating the system".

Stopping the Alarm

The alarm will be stopped by the following two ways;

• Turn the ignition key from the "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.

The system can be cancelled by these ways at the same time.

If the battery becomes discharged due to the vehicle being unused, for a long time etc., when the battery is recharged or replaced, the system will activate the alarm. If this happens, immediately unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch, and the alarm will stop.

Testing the system

1. Set the system
2. Insert a wireless remote control key into the key hole on the driver's door handle, and unlock the door.
3. Open the door, and an alarm will sound.
4. Stop the alarm by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.
5. Repeat this operation for the front passenger's door.

Good luck.

Why does my horn go off 10 to 20 minutes after I lock the doors with the key fob?

Something is wrong with the alarm system or if you don't have an alarm system the vehicle was set up for one from the factory or if its a used vehicle that you bought it at one time had an alarm installed in it that are stilled connected to the horn system .

Just replaced battery on 2005 tundra, how do I reset the vehicle alarm. The alarm now sounds whenever I open the doors.

Anytime the alarm sounds when opening the door with the key, get into the truck anyway, place the key into the ignition key switch and turn it on and off 2 times. The horn will stop blowing and the lights will stop flashing. You're ready to go.......

Can I stop my horn from sounding when I lock my 2009 Accord

You might can have the dealer program it not to honk, but its just the way the keyless entry works. I've owned 2 accords--an 06 and 08--and both of them honk the horn when the lock button is pressed twice. Pressing the button once will secure the car and arm the alarm. So once click is all you really need. And no your alarm is not malfunctioning.

Replacing the ECU will not require Dealer Intervention Although most folks Like to Buy them From junk yard, I Have Never done That For My Personal Cars or most Customers , as You May Buy the SAME PROBLEM & or More different ones. AND that Solution I would ONLY resort to If,, You have EXHAUSTED "ALL" other Avenues, such as Bad Dome Light Buttons, all it takes is 1 to be Slightly Dirty at the Contacts. I would check them all and there plugs/Connecters etc.I think I'll Do a little more reserch on this
But if I have Helped More or solved this Please Remember to RATE me Thonk you RejakWilson
