I dont think you should do this type of job unless you are a tech, major engine damage can occur if any adjustment of the gears are off, i will send you a few diagrams of what needs to be done to do a timing belt on one of these, i have done many and i still triple check everything to avoid damage to motor, the front bumper asm, needs to be removed, the radiator and ac condensor removed the ac system drained out and much more.if you would like to tackle this a will help you just let me know, hope this helps good dayshow to do timing belt on audi a4 tdi ajm engine - johnjohn2_116.gifjohow to do timing belt on audi a4 tdi ajm engine - johnjohn2_118.gifclass=johnjohn2_118.gif

SOME GOOD ADVICE TO BACK YARD MECAHICS.UNLESS YOU R A TRAINED MECHANIC WITH ACCESS TO TECH INFO, DONT EVEN THINK OF DOING UR TIMING BELT CHANGE ON EURO CARS. THEY R COMPLEX, YOU MUST KNOW CORRECT ALIGHNMENT PROCEDURES,TORQUE SPECS,& USE THE CORRECT TOOLS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL WISH YOU NEVER WENT THERE WHEN U CRANK UR MOTOR OVER & FIND ITS DAMAGED. THEY R WHAT U CALL A NON CLEARANCE ENGINE WHICH MEANS IF U GET THE CAM & CRANK TIMING OUT BY JUST ONE TOOTH, VALVES WILL BE BENT & THE POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGING UR PISTON TOPS WHEN THE TOP OF THE PISTON SMASHES INTO A VALVE JAMMED OPEN.WHEN U CHANGE A TIMING BELT,U ALSO REPLACE THE TENSIONER & OR IDLER PULLIES, CAM,CRANK SEALS & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE WATER PUMP.ALSO ALOT OF EURO CARS DONT HAVE LOCATORS FOR T.D.C.NO 1 FIRING ON CAM & CRANK SHAFTS. THE ENGINE MUST FIRST BE PUT IN T.D.C. NUMBER 1 CYLINDER FIRING., THEN LOCK THE CAM & CRANK SHAFTS INTO POSTION, FAILING TO DO THIS , WHEN U UNDO THE CAM & CRANK BOLTS U WILL HAVE TROUBLE GETTING TRUE T.D.C. AGAIN, & WHEN UR TALKING ABOUT CAM & CRANK TIMING UR EITHER SPOT ON OR NOT.GOOD LUCK TRYING TO FIND IT WITHOUT PROPER TOOLS. GETTING THE NUMBER ONE CRANK/PISTON & CAM/VALVE TO TRUE T.D.C. IS A DANGEROUS RISK.LOOK SOME TIMES PEOPLE TRY & SAVE MONEY & THATS OK,BUT IN THIS INSTANT U MIGHT END UP WITH GREAT EXPENSE REPAIRING A DAMAGED ENGINE & A HOLE IN UR BACK POCKET. Audi a4 1.9 tdi thermostat diagramm

First time you might check the thermostat operating.

Heed of antifreeze coolant temperature!!!

The thermostat location for a 2000 Audi A4 1.9 TDI is on back of the alternator at the bottom side of the bracket.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is NOT necessary to replace the alternator if you want to change the thermostat !!!

Thermostat checking:
1. Cold engine. Start up the engine and watch of the water temp indicator. After first value 60 Celsius Degree you still warm up the engine until the lifter (pointer) reach 80 C deg. (second mark after 60 C deg.). At this time you let engine running at idle speed and check with your hand the thermostat plastic housing and hose temperature in bottom left side of the engine. Heed of alternator driving belt and ventilator fan !!!
2. If the thermostat is good the hose must be cold until the water temp indicator reach almost 90 C deg.
3. The thermostat opening temperature is 87 C deg.
4. If the hose is already warm the thermostat is out of order.

Thermostat location, Part number: 044121113, in german - "Kuehlregle" (Price around $25):

Important note: Always replace the thermostat round seal, position 7 in the above picture.

Is the timing belt replacement link with the number of Km (90000) only or also with the car life. In other word my A4 19 TDI is 2003 and has got 55000 km when shall i replace the timing belt?

Even your car Audi A4 1.9 TDI has got 55000 km and the timing belt replacement is due at 90000 km, the car was made in 2003. I strongly recommend you to change now the timing belt in order to prevent any risk!

Hi my audi 1.9 tdi is losing power badley the acceliration totaly went its just had a new turbo so i dont think its the turbo. I,ve been out in the car a few times and the problem seems to come and go...

If somebody replaced the turbocharger with a new one, you must check up all command vacuum lines, the entire air intake system (air pressure pipes, intercooler, connections, EGR - throttle vane, ...), and also turbocharger and EGR command solenoid valves (three pieces). Could be also MAF sensor defective! Here you have the vacuum air pipes connection picture for Audi A4 1.9 TDI (AJM engine):

Cambelt sliped or broken. does the valves bend.

what is the liter size of your engine? the 1.8L is an interference engine. generally all Audi engines are interference engines, and timing belt breakage can bend valves, the sure way to determine without detailed maintenance information, install a new belt, once the belt is on immediately run a compression test, if timing marks are good and compression fails, valves are bent.

Turbo over boost on audi a4 1.9 tdi sport, goes into limp mode when i reach 60mph. emp, reads error code p1557

I can help you to fix this problem. "Fault code: P1557 - Turbo Boost pressure control exceeded"
But I need some info from your engine:
- what type of engine do you have (engine code: ex.ALH, AJM, AWX, ...) or power in kW (PS)
- how many km (miles) are your car?
