Theft deterrent appears to be disabled in my 2008 Pontiac Vibe. Is there a way to turn it off and back on?

The security icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Anti disable system theft

You should try checking the Brakelights when you press the brakes. There is a switch on the brakepedal lever which prevents the starter from turning if it does not get a signal. This switch often gets hit by the drivers feet and is either dislodged or broken.

Another possibility is a bad keychip. The Anti-theft system may be flashing because it does not confirm the key matches the Code locked in the Antitheft. If you have a spare key with chip. try it.

I have read about jumping some wires at the bottom of the Driver's side kickpanel. Most I know about it. Can't say what the effects are or if permanent or temporary. Try the 2 items I have included before fooling with the Anti-theft.

Behind the dashboard, passenger side. The relay is on the driver side behind the dashboard. The key reader is on the ignition lock cylinder.

I cant start my cadillac eldorado 95 it says starter dusabled due to theft system how do I fix this problem?

Go around the car to the passenger side, and insert the rounded door key in the door, then lock and then unlock the door with the key. This should disable the anti-theft system. This also will shut off the horn blowing when the alarm is tripped. This works on all older Cadlillacs. Hope this helps.

Try re-setting the computer...Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and leave off for 5-10 minutes. This will allow the computer to reset. The charger may have interupted the signal or something.

Theft detterent system not allowing truck to start

Unfortunately if the theft detterent system is not allowing the key to start the vehicle because of a fault it could be that the chip in the key has failed or it could be that something else in the system has failed, but with that system the only answer is to have the system inspected or/and reset by a diagnostic tool, usually the dealership has the best one for their specific vehicles but some independent shops have good aftermarket tools that will do the job either way it is probably going to mean a tow bill.
