I have a 2000 XJR V8 Supercharged Engine and I am getting an occasional Yellow light Trac Not Available Code. It goes out by itself a few seconds after start up and never returns while driving. This just started about 1 week ago. I do not know what it is.

  • sandrawhite1 Oct 27, 2008

I have the same problem. The ASC TRAC light comes on and after re-start it goes away. Have not found out what the problem is.

  • Anonymous Dec 02, 2008

Check engine light was on for abut a week, replaced BOTH lower O2 sensors, which a week later caused the "asc not available" "engine fail safe" mode to come on when engine was cold (Los Angeles - not very often). Also get a restricted performance warning, which is intermittent.. not fixed yet. My mechanic is running diagnostics today....

I have the same problem with my Jaguar XJ 2001. Initially the 'trac not available' error came once in a blue moon when i started the car but no it's getting more frequent, even when i drive slow in traffic jams. When it happens the engine starts to shake. Restarting the car solves the problem but this is not a long term solution.

    Thanks

    Anno

I had the same issue...I went to Auto Zone and got a diagnostic...Came back that my Throttle Position Sensor was faulty...However after taking it to the dealer, and paying 135.00 for THEIR diagnostic...You can't simply buy the sensor. You have to buy a new Throttle Body at 902.00 + Tax atleast here in Vegas. I hope it's not your problem, but go get a FREE diagnostic first.

I am leaning towards the throttle body sensor malfunction, this P code will usually throw the car into limp mode, you will see the dsc mil come on,also engine fault, and park brake fault. One main cause is moisture from rain or engine washing will deter the sensor...The throttle body is simple to remove,it has 2 connections one on the right and left, and it mounts to the absolute manifold pressure plate using 4 8 or 10mm bolts. The sensor is not serviceable, its a sealed in module with a solenoide.Good Luck...

I have a 2000 XJ8 without cruise control which displayed the engine fail safe mode and refused to start at all. However it starts no problem in neutral. Must be a sensor on the park gear.

My year 2000 XJ8 engine would not crank, warning sign said 'engine fail safe mode' or similar. only happens when engine is hot. Problem diagnosed as adjustment required to cable from gear shift. When the shift was in the 'P' the red light was not on (it should be). I think the sensore tells the ECU the gear box lever is in the wrong position to allow starting. You could try and start it in the 'N' position, I have been told.

As most likely know the engine in your Jag is controlled by a computer, when it senses a serious fault in any of the systems it monitors it can trigger a shut down with a restart, the shut down and needed restart is the same as rebooting a computer for a problem that has occurred in the system. What must be done now is to have the local dealer or a very well equipped shop run a scan of the computers memory, there will be fault codes stored for they event and warning lights. So get it tested.

Can I drive my car Safely with :ASC Trac not available / Trac not available

you can safely drive with this light on. it will be like driving a car without traction control. some also shut off the ABS system(anti-lock brakes) but again its like driving without this system like cars use to be before all this new options came out.

When I start the car ASC Tract not available ,and Trac Not available . Can I safely drive the car, I started the car and tried to take Trac Off but the system lights were still on

you have a code in the system that controls the TRAC system have it checked, its not the same computer that controls engine. if its intermitant problem it will be hard to find but the TRAC system will set a code and light.

42 miles with a jaguar. First I love Jaguars. Youll get to your home by a tow truck. The car is talking to you say its sick. Here is what will happen, The TRAC, ASC, light is on okay the APP will now go to limp home mode what this mean it will default giving limited operations, youll probable just go 30mph, and that is just it. The transmission does not know what gear or how fast its going so it communicates to the powertrain it tell it I dont know what Im doing so it activates the traction control and say keep me safe the traction control say okay Ill get disable, then the transmission control tell the powertrain I could be burning up or slipping. So The APP(acclerator pedal position ) gets involved and say we will just limp on home.Remeber i love juguars so does tow trucks

BMW (e39 1999) eml and asc lights and in limp mode

Check the ABS brake sensors in your wheels, if they are not functioning properly. It will trigger the computer to engage the ASC auto stability control light as the asc uses the brakes to assist in control. I will also engage the EML engine management light to slow the rev point to limp mode

Asc trac control not available light comes on

the ABS controller (the box that hooks up to the ABS pump) is bad.
There are 2 plugs. The top one has a sort of slider that you pull up to disconnect the plug, the bottom one is a bit tricker, but keep fiddling, it will come off. The next fun part is the 4 FEMALE TORX fasteners that hold the box on. You'll need this socket (it's a T5 female IIRC) to remove the box. Be careful fishing it through the brake lines. Remove the unit and send it to ASI inc. 423-921-9085,
212 e. Washington St, Rogersville TN, 37857. They will rebuild your unit for $55 and a lifetime guarantee, and you can drive the car while the unit is out being serviced. You'll have the ABS, CHECK ENGINE, ASC/TRAC NOT AVAILABLE AND LOW BRAKE FLUID lights in, and your handbrake light will also be gone. When you get the unit back, disconnect the battery reinstall the unit, connect the batter and erase the codes (I cleared mine with a cheapo PepBoys model) PROBLEM SOLVED.! These ABS controllers are cheap POS parts made in the Phillipines....I'd settle for LUCAS any day.

Failsafe engine mode

The failsafe mode can appear following numerous faults being detected - some faults can be momentary and register but not cause a problem. These are normally reset by just turning ignition off/on. get the fault code memory read at a garage and this may give you a clue as to a possible problem developing. Failsafe mode will give you reduced engine performance but will allow you to drive for normally some distance. If a serious problem developes your car message centre will tell you to shut off the engine or it will shut it down.
good luck.
